Can anyone confirm what type of wood trim this is? I have a 2015 XK base. I believe it's Satin Elm, but not 100% sure. I'm looking to replace my Piano Black consul trim with the same wood but want to be sure I know what to look for.

Isn't that burr walnut? And your twin-needle stitching leather top dash suggests it's a portfolio rather than a base model - or is that a US market thing?

 

My 2010 XKR has the same stitch pattern, but the one above looks a bit.... wonky. The seams aren't quite evenly spaced around the trim and isn't quite smooth enough. Maybe the dash leather was replaced by an upholsterer? The padding looks a bit poofy to me also.

...and actually looking more closely at the OP's picture that doesn't look like real soft leather either. The grain looks wrong. But the question was about the veneer - and my money's on walnut, but there again not the best walnut I've seen, my experience with burr walnut being in XJs.

 

For your 2015, there appears there were only 3 wood choices, with the ‘Gloss Burl Walnut’ being the closest match (being real wood, the exact results will vary):

 

I've seen 2 types of burl trims, dark and light, some more dramatic than others.

 

What you have in your second picture is what I'm used to seeing as walnut. What's in the first picture, which matches the OP, isn't a finish I'm familiar with at least from any of the XJs and XJSs I've known.

Nigel Thorley's book says the veneer options for XK, XK Portfolio and XKR for 2013-2014 (i.e. 2015 for US market) was "same as 2012" - which was

XK: Piano Black/Knurled Aluminium/Gloss Rich Oak/Satin Rosewood/Burr Walnut/Satin Elm/Satin American Walnut
Portfolio: Knurled Aluminium/Gloss Rich Oak/Satin Rosewood/Burr Walnut/Satin Elm/Satin American Walnut/Gloss Figured Ebony

mind you, by that late stage you could probably BTO any trim combination you fancied.

 

Since the dash leather in the OP’s car doesn’t appear original, the wood trim may have been replaced too. That first picture shown by jahummer, which looks likes the OP’s, is in a 2007, which you can tell by the wood trimmed steering wheel.

 

To me this doesn't look like the clear walnut trim that was available, it looks like discoloured walnut burl.
Could you show the part on the other side @GMEaton ?
The way the colour shift appears more like the sun result than the way the pattern grow on the tree burls.
The density of the fibers are different so the dyes doesn't handle the UV's regularly. You can see such things on 18th century marquetry work that stayed too long under the sun or on mahogany furnishing.
This would be mine, i would re-dye them.(yes, the veneers are dyed to standardize the appearance ) .. and you could then get the correct part for the center console.

 

I consider the wood on his car quite acceptable. Yes, there is vast deviation, but some people like bold statements like that.

I didn’t say it, but I reckon this’s the reason as well, though I’ve seen coupes with similar colour/pattern. It’s correct that only one burr option was available, so it’s definitely NOT an additional choice.

Wonky? Poofy? Ouch! Sadly, you are correct, the dash was reupholstered due to sun damage - the previous owner did not garage the vehicle. However, I'm pretty sure the trim is original, but due to the location of that piece, may be faded/sun damaged as well. Attached is another pic of the trim below the instrument panel. Sounds like there is a lot of variation in the patterns/colors, so it might be prudent for me to see of I can replace the whole kit and kaboodle if a set comes available. So now it depends on you wether you have them refinished or buy a new set (including central console). I guess it'll depend on what you find on the market. Just know refinishing is not that hard at all if you're a DIYer.
