XK / XKR ( X150 ) 2006 - 2014

Would you ever trade your XK for an F-Type?

If you don't mind the earlier F1 trans, the Ferrari 612's are a great buy right now if looking at DB9, etc...

My concern would be clutch life and what it would cost if i were a DIYer in regards to if a Ferrari Diagnostic System is accessible to me or I can pay a dealer to program clutch details like thickness and such. I know Lamborghini from that era require some computer work with clutch replacement in egear cars, and I'd be coming in blind.

You just made me need to go on Ferrari Chat now! See what you did? I'm appreciative of the comments though since you're more in the exotic world than i am and it's always great to hear your comments!

Never heard of that car till now (the 612) .. quite possibly the ugliest Ferrari I've ever seen.

Eh, idk man. Not for me. Its like Ferrari adopted the ******* child of Porsche and Aston Martin and called her Scaglietti.

Maybe if it was a bit less expensive? Just my opinion ...

Why do you still post here then?
My XKR.... 68,000 miles with original water pump and timing chains. Not a rattle, not a drip.
I guess maybe you messed yours up yourself? I'd think you shouldn't blame the car.....................

This is the next best thing to having a time machine. XKR issues today is what F-types will be going through in the future.

There's a reason they are 'affordable' . . .

No I wouldn't. I only bought my XKR because I like everything about the way it looks - can't say the same about the F Type. I bought it to keep in my collection of toys, without it I wouldn't replace it with another Jaguar of any description really, or even another car for that matter.

I know people who have tried out or had access to the F Type (people who work at JLR), they all say the same thing - fun, full on, gets a bit annoying after a while.

I’m not that desperate to be loyal to a brand. F-Type still has not “grown” on me. IMHO is feels cheap and lacks performance compared to its competition and technically in many ways it is still an X150 (almost all parts identical for those who don’t know) just shorter wheel base since lacking a +2 rear.

Would be nice if Jaguar brought back a GT but not holding my breath. Meanwhile if I want a sports, Porsche & McLaren are good options.

I wonder how many saying no to the f-type based on aesthetics and room would also say no to the vantage at the same price point and vintage (hypothetically of course)?

In answer to the original question, yes, I traded my beautiful and much loved XK (X150) for an F-Type V6S...and I haven't looked back. The F-Type coupe is simply gorgeous in the same way that the XK is gorgeous ( and both in BRG) ...but the F-Type is much faster, more precise in handling, very comfortable (and mine has the 20 inch wheels), has beautiful, soft Windsor leather everywhere, every possible feature, makes me smile when I get in and positively laugh in joy when I press the accelerator, makes me look back at it when I park it, has ample luggage space (the convertible would be a different thing...). The paint, fit and finish are impeccable, no squeaks, no rattles, ...in short I love it and feel connected to in a way that was missing for me in the XK despite its beauty and comfort.

I chose a used X150 over a new F-type back in 2015.
I like the open bright and unbusying atmosphere the interior of the X150 offers.
Especially the caramel interior with wood accents.
I would like it if the X150 had faster acting menu in the center dash, and a toggle off/auto for the AC instead of needing to go into the menu to go off.
F-type doesn't offer that.
F-type cannot fulfill the purpose of my XK.

For now I'm happy with my combination of manual gear box 'Vette and XK.
I still keep an eye on what is for sale with the 2008-2011XKR.

Will also glance at what is availbile in the Ferrari 456 Market from time to time.
Seems those with auto's are the ones willing to sell, and those with manuals are happy to keep them off market.

I am not sure what you mean by this, because the F-Type has the easiest, most intuitive climate control system of any Jaguar (and it has now been standardized across the range). You can turn the system on or off in an instant by one click of the fan rotary switch OR by a simple button on/off for the A/C and for Auto (- a lovely satisfying touch to that control as well). No need to go into a menu on the screen. Temperature control is equally easy, with an individual rotary control for each side of the cabin (and they can be paired so that an adjustment of the driver's side alters both sides)...there is no going into a menu for any basic control of the climate control system. It is far easier, faster, and more efficient than the system in the X150.

The F-Type is a sports car in orientation, not a grand tourer like the X150; thus there is no rear seat and no wood trim (and I LOVE the wood trim in Jags but don't miss it a bit here). The coupé has plenty of trunk room - complaints about trunk capacity in the F-Type apply to the convertible, not the coupé (and besides, if trunk room is an important criterion, why would you be looking at a sports car?).

This car is all about performance, and it has that in spades - but it is also stunningly beautiful, and very comfortable, with every luxury feature you could possibly want (depending on the chosen specification). And it looks like nothing else on the road.

The X150 is a superb grand touring car, and gorgeous. The F-Type is a superb sports car, and gorgeous - to attempt to compare them is to try to compare "apples and oranges". They serve different purposes and appeal for different reasons, but having owned both (and by the way, the XK is still in the family) I actually prefer the F-Type for the reasons I have given.

My XK:

My F-Type - equally beautiful, but smaller (but not in width!):

The nicely finished luggage space in the F-Type coupé - and it extends to the full width of the very wide body - plenty of room for soft bags for two for an extended trip (done it!):

I've thought of trading my XKR for a younger one in terms of age and mileage. After having driven an F-Type, courtesy of Jaguar NA, for five days I pretty much know what the differences are; one is a sports car and the other is a GT. And the GT is the one for me. Smoother ride, more space and comfort, eats miles for breakfast with sufficient space for luggage for two on a 10+ day road trip. You just can't do that in an F-Type.
