X150 Ultimate Guide JWM - July Issue
Just received my "Jaguar World Monthly" July 2014 issue, and it has a great section devoted to the latest XK/XKR series. It is must reading for at least anybody getting ready to buy one of these used. It also has a lot of information for current owners - at least owners like myself who are mechanically challenged. Although this series is much more reliable than the X100, there are several issues; many of which have come-up on this forum.
First there was a warning about working on the rear brakes with the electronic handbrake. "Do not attempt to remove the rear pads unless the SERVICE MODE has been switched on - if the handbrake is activated whilst working on the rear brake, it could crush your fingers". There, I've got that out of the way for what it is worth.
There is also a mention about most XKs needing all four lower arms in the suspension "renewing" by 60,000 miles.
Interesting thoughts about values going both ways (initially down further and then up). Featured a 2011 XK coupe 5.0. JWM felt it is a great buy and that these "normally aspirated cars could double their value overnight".
There is a lot more good info if you want to pick-up this issue.

v8cat informed me by PM that he has a subscription to Jaguar World Monthly and got his copy in the mail.
I tried to find a magazine retailer in metro Atlanta who sells Jaguar World Monthly and so far have been unsuccessful. I called my local Barnes and Noble book store and they don't carry it. Amazon has it but only as an annual subscription. I'll try other book stores tomorrow.
I found the July 2014 issue of Jaguar World as a digital download for $5.99 from: Pocketmags.com | Jaguar World I'll order it if I'm unable to find the print version.
I posted the above link in case you can't find the print version.
If anyone knows of a USA national retailer who sells the single copy print version, please let us know.
Stuart
p.s. This download is also available on the Google Play (Android) store. There is only 1 review, and is it somewhat negative. I don't know if buying direct from the above link is any better.

I have subscribed to Jaguar World through that link for a couple of years now so get an email when the new edition comes out. You can either read it on-line or using an off-line viewer that is available for most devices. I keep a copy on my iPad for when I fancy a little light reading.
I used to buy the paper copy regularly when I lived in the UK then got it posted to NZ once I moved here so now have a cupboard full of those and Jaguar Enthusiast magazines dating back to the mid 80's. An electronic copy is much easier to store and access!

Notwithstanding the advice I got two days ago from my local Barnes and Noble at Perimeter Mall, I decided to go there yesterday and guess what? They do, in fact, carry Jaguar World Monthly - there were 2 copies of the May 2014 issue on the shelf but no June or July. I asked the Customer noService girl when the July issue would be in and after playing with her computer she told me she had no idea. I concluded that she must have been the one who previously told me that they didn't carry it since she didn't know there were 2 issues in stock.*
Lacking confidence in her ability to make further progress, I left the store and called the Barnes and Noble in Buckhead. I spoke with Kevin, who was very knowledgeable and explained that they do carry it but only get in 4 copies that usually sell out quickly. He didn't have any back issues in stock and hasn't received the July issue yet because they changed vendors and are now experiencing delays in delivery. He said he would call me when it came in. Wow! I just went 180 degrees from Customer noService. Thanks, Kevin, for doing your job and exceeding my expectations! I'll call the Buckhead store manager today and let him know.

I bought the digital copy via the internet. The article focuses on the history of the XK/XKR from 2006 and provides an overview of the features of the XK/XKR and the generation changes from 2006 up to present. The article doesn't really provide any new information for XK/XKR owners, (any more than what is posted here) but speaks of the massive price declines from new price points, thus making the older XK/XKR's a good value and compelling buy.
I am not sure that I would run around town trying to buy a copy of this article/magazine. Just spend the $5.99 from the comfort of your home and read the article digitally. You will spend more time and money running around to buy the magazine and read the article for what it is worth.
To me there wasn't anything major in the article that a Jaguar enthusiast doesn't already know.
It's a case of pure curiousity that made me spend the $5.99 USD to read the article.
Update: The article does state that the older model XK/XKR 2006 to 2010 provide the best values when considering one of these Jaguar models.

Richard,
Is the thumbnail of 5 pages that you posted the entire article? If so, there's no need for me to buy the magazine since, as you said, it didn't tell me anything I didn't already know. I'm disappointed that it didn't discuss more details of the construction and engineering and differences between model years and options.
The drawing of the concept car at the top of the first page is very interesting. Looks to me like Ian Callum was paying homage to the 1963 Corvette Sting Ray - right down to the pontoon fenders and gills. Could this be the future 4-passenger Jaguar GT? I hope not, although I think this design is what the new 2014 Sting Ray should have been.
I also noted that the article on the last page about why Steve Jackson bought his 2008 coupe misleads the reader into thinking that the photo of the red coupe is a 2008 model year XK, when it is not. That photo is of a 2010 XKR - note the bumper and hood vents. I expected better accuracy.
Thanks for convincing me to not buy the July issue.

Yes, gents that was the entire article. Nothing that we already did not know, especially for those who spend lots of time on this forum. Save your $$$
And yes Stuart, I didn't think the photo of the Red Jag was correct either.
If you really want to know about these cars be sure to watch the 3 segment video I posted about how these are made. It is very imformative and never hurts to watch a few times. It builds confidence in the ownership of these premium automotive machines.

And if they are going to warn about this then shouldn't the same warning be given about starting the engine, putting the car in gear and revving the engine whilst working on the rear brakes?

Because it's electrically operated, it could be triggered by an electrical fault. I'm guessing that's pretty unlikely, but while you're faffing about with pads & callipers, you might just disturb some wiring that's not in the best condition. Which could be unfortunate if you like being able to count to 10...
