You could wait till 2014 when Jag is supposedly rolling out the new XK with usable back seats....

But then I'll have to wait until 2020 until I can afford one! I'll be 35 by then almost!

I have 997CS2 and a 996tt. My 6 year old fits very comfortably with his booster seat in the back, but in my XKR, his head hits the top with the booster seat. He also doesn't have much leg room even with the front seat move almost completely forward.

I'm hearing from my dealer that the current XK/XKR will be around through the 2014 model year and will either be dropped or stretched for the 2015 model year.

For me, the car is the perfect size just the way it is. One of the reasons I didn't pick a BMW 650i or the CL550 was because they were way too big. When I need to seat more than 2 people, then I use a sedan.

Same problem here- my 5 year old's head would touch the roof. I removed the booster seat for my 4 and 5 y.o. and now they fit perfectly.
Having a back seat was actually a prerequisite for a new car for me- it works well for little kids (<10). I looked at a gt3 before I bought my Xkr-s, but I would have needed to buy another car to carry my kids on occasion.

But then why have 2 seats at all! I would've preferred a 2-seat roadster than a 2+2 with useless rear seats.

They put the 2 seats in there to lower insurance costs.

2011 Jaguar XKR 175 Test Drive & Review - YouTube

Skip to 3:35 or so. There is a pretty cute chick in the back seat! That's all I need! (Sorry for the cheesy quality of the entire video.)

Except I'm not interested in the coupe, only the 'vert. Headroom should not be an issue as I only plan to invite people back there if the top is down!

LOL. I was having a conversation with my wife concerning how many grocery bags would fit under the rear hatch of the coupe and we determined that the "back seat" could hold 2 perfectly!

Yes, it's really a shelf with buckets and I'm all for it lowering the insurance rates.

I've always been suspect of that term--2+2 of what?

Many years ago, I had a 1987 RX7. For all practical purposes, the XK coupe and the 87 RX7 are very similar in physical design. Rather than add 2 seats in the back, that car's hatch extended all the way up to the seats. In the section that was just behind the seats, there were two storage compartments built in. All in all, it was a much more efficient use of the space.

Yes, that would definitely be better.

I echo aahmichael's point. The proportions of the car are what give it its beautiful lines. Either alternative (larger rear seats or a 2 seater format) and we wouldn't be in love with this first-class GT. ...'cuz it wouldn't look like a first-class GT. The rear seat works in a pinch, for short duration.

My xkr has a back seat? I thought those were two additional cup holders. Who knew?

I bought two sets of nesting roller bags that matched my beige interior almost perfectly. The two larger ones fit side by side in my coupe, and the two smaller ones set upright in the back seat with the seat belts holding them in place. Looks and works great.
