Question XK Differences between 2010 & 2012+

Besides the visual queues, what is different on the 2012+ XK/XKR's? Anything with engine or suspension or braking?

Starting with the North American 2012 coupe and the 2013 convertible, you could get the "Dynamic Pack" which changed quite a few items.
"The Dynamic Pack option, which was introduced for the 2012 XKR Coupe, is now also available on the 2013 XKR Convertible. Adapting elements from the XKR-S, the Dynamic Pack equips the XKR models with retuned suspension (sport knuckles) for even greater handling agility, and in addition adds aerodynamic enhancements and unlocks a higher top track speed of 174 mph."

Does 2012+ XK have dynamic pack available or just XKR?

It was only an option for the XKR.

Oh, and the Performance Active Exhaust was also a $1,400 "XKR" option.

XKR's come with an active rear differential that mimics a mechanical limited-slip differential and transfers power between the rear wheels when slippage is detected.

Most of the other changes were cosmetic, such as different exterior colors, wheel packages etc. There was also the "Speed Pack" option & a "Black Pack" option. And of course the intro of the XKR-S, & the the XKR-S GT.

The 2014 Jaguar XKR has the usual exterior upgrades over the base convertible like quad tailpipes, unique hood vents, black upper and lower grilles, and of course the mandatory barrages of “R” badges. Our XK-R also features the optional “Black Pack” that blacks-out the rest of the shiny bits like the 20-inch wheels, grille surrounds, air intakes, fender vents and trunk lid trim. Also included in this package are a front splitter and larger rear spoiler. All of these styling tweaks combine to make the XKR a sinister looking beast with the only splash of color coming from the taillights and optional bright red brake calipers.

As nice as these upgrades are, the only real option that must be checked off on the 2014 Jaguar XK-R is the performance active exhaust. For a mere $1,400, or a fraction of the total cost, Jaguar claims this upgrade “uncorks the aural fury of the 5.0 liter supercharged engine.” I’m not one to usually give in to marketing hyperbole, but there might not be a more accurate phrase to describe what happens when “dynamic” mode is engaged and the active exhaust opens up. The sound that explodes from the rear of the vehicle is incredible; especially with the top down.

And one more note: Although I have not yet been able to confirm it, the 2015 MY XKR & XKR-S apparently had a few additional tweaks to the suspension including upgraded parts and a further slight lowering (~10-12mm).

And I also forgot to mention the "Final Fifty" series run of cars. (25 each of the coupe and convertible.)

Speed Pack & Black Pack were available sooner than 2012. The Speed Pack was originally developed for the 2008 4.2 R-S, and I think it was an option in 2010 - both Speed & Black Packs were definitely MY2011 options.

My 13 XKR Portfolio has the following: Performance Active Exhaust, 20" polished Orona Wheels, Chrome Mirror Covers, Chrome Grille (upper and lower), Door sill Treadplates, Oltrona Frau Leather Header, Portfolio Interior theme (contrasting read thread and dark blue leather trim) and finally Shadow Walnut wood inlays on dash and doors.

Many cars on my "try before I die" list. Basically following 1/2 dozen as a upgrade to my 08 XKR and grabbing the best deal. Was thinking any 2010+ XKR. Being a convertible guy, It sounds like the 2013 XKR convertible would be the next logical Jag for me to add to the list. Thoughts?

Thanks for opening this discussion Moses. Let me know if this is too much of a thread hijack... not my intention.

Which years at minimum (if any) will do Bluetooth audio from an iPhone? I can deal with older GUI, but plugging my phone in to play Spotify is a pain.

@J5hort - we too are leaning to a convertible this time around. Color combo is critical and I want 19" wheels, even if I have to buy them separately.

Moses, been driving convertibles for decades. Something about open air, even tho the season is limited here in New England. Also own truck for winter driving if needed. Only negatives I have heard with convertible over coupe/other is limited rear seat space, smaller trunk space, heavier car, less rigidity (race day) and colder cockpit in cold weather. The space issues do not concern me and the other issues may have been a problem with earlier models of cars (my early mustang convertible had a vinyl top, no headliner or insulation), but convertibles are made by design these days. I am at a point where roadsters fit my lifestyle.

As for colors, all my mustang convertibles were red. Seemed to fit. My Jag is Lunar Grey/Charcoal. Kinda like the British green for the Jag. Maybe tan or black interior. Some advise against black interiors and tops, but I like the interior heating up by the sun in the spring/fall in New England. High noon in summer is not the best time to drive a convertible, early morning or evening is the most enjoyable for me.

The only convertible I owned was a Suzuka Blue '03 S2000 which was my daily driver for 4 years...

I really like the dark blue or brown color interiors of the later XK's. I don't think I'd do another Caramel or Ivory Jag interior unless it's mint. The leather wears a lot on the bolsters and the XK seams to have different hides than my VDP did which wore better.

Was looking XJ's as well. We could put off the XK or whatever 2 door on our next purchase and wait until my XE lease expires to get that sort of car.

Ya. I noticed on some lighter interior colors they look cleaner short term, but dirtier long term. Visa versa on the dark colors. Been looking at Astons a bit... Talk about some funky interior colors.

Back to topic. Talk me into a 2010 over a 2012. Where are these on the low mileage price meter.

At 35Kish there is a lot to choose from. Plenty to choose from at that price point. There a few nice ones on carmax for instance. OffleaseOnly is also good source for late model Jags to get sense for the market.

I check out CarGurus every now and then. I feel it's a reasonable gauge to check on price points and availability.

Here is a search for 2010 only XK Nationwide. You have to modify the mileage filter yourself as that is not saved in the url. Seems 40k miles and under XKR verts are about $35k currently. XK models under 50k miles about $28k. I can tell you from experience that last August XK models were listing at about $32K.... sigh....

CarGurus played a big role in helping me find my 08 XKR. Cambridge, MA company looking at going IPO for those stock brokers in the crowd.

Check out the murdered low mileage XKR convertible...

So with 19-inch wheels an XKR is not an option? I've heard that 20s are required to fit the rotors. I don't know for sure, just what I've heard.

To the best of my knowledge, one of the major differences between the 10 and 12 is there is no backup camera. Another thing to remember is the 10 is the first year for the 5L engine. This particular car may be a special edition. I believe you can get the build sheet from topic by entering the VIN which is available on the listing. Good hunting.

I have a 2010 XKR vert. I like the exterior badging of the 2012 better-- leaper on the back, all that.
Pretty sure rear seat space (ha!) is the same between verts and hardtop-- roof may be lower. BUT... I've sat comfortably (somewhat...) in the back seat of my car by doing the following: sit behind the passenger. Passenger has to move their seat fairly far forward. You sit "sideways," so your legs are in the well behind the driver. And, most critically---top DOWN. That's the game-changer. I just don't think you can do it in a hardtop.
And I've never seen a '10 or later XKR with 19" wheels. I have my original window sticker and my wheels were a $5000 "option," but I'm sure the car shipped with them on it. It's like the basic Premium Package on some MBZ's (the "P1" package)-- you had to order special to get a car WITHOUT it already tacked on.
I've got 28K miles on it. And yeah, I figure mid-30's for price these days.
(PS: I'm thinking about getting a newer model year. I will let you know, if you're interested. The car's pretty sweet-looking...)
