Default XK sales soar, replacement definite, but not until 2016 or later

Just found this article quoting head of Jaguar.

Jaguar confirms next-generation XK coupe, but XF may be replaced first |*CarAdvice

Interesting that XK sales have soared since the F-Type was introduced. People go to the showroom to see the F-Type and buy the XK for a bit of space with their pace and grace...I totally get that!

XK replacement hasn't been started, with XF replacement to come first.

Bruce....you are correct. I went to the dealer to see the F-Type....saw a new 2013 XKR sitting in the showroom. It became a love affair immediately and then my search for a bride started. Bought a 2009 XKR Portfolio Edition convertible 4 weeks later. Think this just might be a love affair for a long time, unless I get the 7 year itch and want to trade her in for a newer model, Jaguar of course. 2016 would just about be right timing, as I see a whole new awesome design coming.

I am looking forward to seeing some new design XK/XKR photos.

Hi Bruce, thats exactly what I did. I went to the Jag dealer with a friend that purchased the F-Type and I was impressed with it, BUT then I saw a XKR-S coupe in the showroom and fell in love. I went with the XKR as they wouldn't budge off the 135k sticker(they still have the car).. Love my XKR best GT car I've ever owned.

To think Jaguar is going to get rid of the oval grill on the next XK; big mistake. The front is so much more appealing on the XK than the F-Type

Although I have to laugh at the statement of four seat practicality. I use the rear seat for hats and laptops.

We all seem to love the timeless XK styling, and its extra space that allows us to be able to enjoy it on more occasions...even on the race track!

The article claims that nothing is cast in stone, and since they recognize that the current XK has great appeal among those purchasing the brand, I feel confident that Jaguar will ensure the new model is just as appealing. Maybe they will change the oval...and we might all just love it! Only time will tell. Jaguar's design team is working wonders.

Not only is nothing cast in stone but they haven't even started to design it according to the article. No decisions have been made.

A new revamped XK for 2016 sounds promising, but as with the F Type and any totally redesigned car (especially a British car) it might need years to sort out the issues.

I read someplace that the next gen XK will be pushed into the stratosphere with Bentley GT pricing with heightened levels of refinement and power Having the F-type fill in the sportscar gap. I think we can expect the new brand face on it and possibly (ulp..) a 4 door...
They'd better not..

You probably heard someone speculating about pricing here, or elsewhere on the internet. The only thing we know for sure is that nobody knows, although I read somewhere that Ian Callum wants to carry the new grill design throughout the line...and that seems at least plausible, while Bentley pricing does not.

Pricing is already up there, with the XK starting at $80,000 (Touring sans previously standard equipment). The XKR is a 100,000 car, so it won't be surprising to see the XK line close to 100,000+ if it turns out to be an over the top model. Bentley prices, I don't think so. That's another class of cars.

Little fancier leather, nicer looking brakes, and an XK can play in the poke the Bentley league IMO. Very few updates/upgrades are required to ask a lot more for an XK.

Take with sack of salt. Total Jaguar sales are quite low, especially XK (and tiny for F-Type). Land Rover sells most of the cars sold by JLR.

Be interesting to wait and see what actually happens and when.

Can you provide data to prove that Jaguar sales aren't up?

I can....

Jaguar sales were 1,230 units in August, up from 1,029 in the year-ago period.
Land Rover sales were 4,938 in August, up from 3,727 in the year-ago period

Jaguar reported 11,134 models sold, up 30 percent from 8,546 models, with both XJ and XF sales increasing.

Agreed. The F Type was supposed to be a game changer for Jaguar, but currently dealers are choking on the inventory they have. Jaguar does not sell many cars. Land Rover makes up most of the sales and those numbers relatively speaking are still low compared to other manufacturers. If they want exclusivity, they have it. I'm fine with it.

The article was from Australian Car Advice. There were a number of reasons why the XK sales were up in Oz, but I think mainly price driven. The prices came down by about 20 - 30%, between a drop due to our stronger dollar and other incentives. They are still expensive (double what you'd pay in the US and then some). On top of that, I think that the f-type hype translated to XK sales. Certainly it did in my case - I hadnt really considered a coupe until I thought about the f-type, but then once I'd made that mental shift I thought that the XKR was a better fit for me, and I'd always loved the shape anyway.

My Jag dealership got all excited when the first 2 F-Types arrived and were sold within days. Now they have 8-9...8-9!!!! I think they have like 1 XK (not R or RS) on the lot. Its the dead of winter with 9 convertibles freezing out in the cold and covered with snow! NO THANKS!!!!!!!!!

I'm also one of those that went to the dealer looking at the F-type and drove away in an XK. Maybe the F-type has been good for XK sales.

Same here, but it was for the future F Type Coupe which is just about here. The ride was just too firm and the car the way I wanted was way too costly. I then test drove the XK and it was a done deal.
