Default XK Suspension Derivation ?

Are the XK suspension components more akin to any other Jag model? Is the design derived from another car or has the XK evolved on its own? Are any major suspension components shared with other model Jags?

I don't think you're being ignored... I'm just not sure anyone knows. I've not read anything regarding where the suspension came from, etc. But I'd be interested to know as well.

i'll have a crack at this

if you look at the parts list ,there are a few part that come from the s type ,that fit the xk and xf

front hub from x350

have a look at this
Jaguar X150 XK - XKR--Steering-Suspension

it looks like all the wishbones are the same front and rear the s xf and xk

ball joints track rods xk xf

hubs and a few other parts xj xk xf and s type so a bit of a mix ,

hope that answer's your question.

Thanks Dave,

Good to know. Your efforts are appreciated. I take from this that the XK has a purpose built suspension even if many of the parts come out of Jag inventory. Some sports car/grand tourer manufacturers simply run in a suspension from their small sedans, change the shock valving/spring rates and declare it a performance vehicle.

BTW your XK is some good looking machine.

I thought it was well known that the chassis and suspension on the first generation XK8/XKR was derived from the XJS.

"The first-generation XK series shares its platform with the Aston Martin DB7. Both cars are derived from the Jaguar XJS, though the platform has been extensively changed. One of the revisions is the use of the second generation of Jaguar's IRS unit, taken from the XJ40."

Jaguar XK (X100) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

and

"Jaguar used the XJ-S to lay the foundation for the XK8, but the chassis has been stiffened and tweaked almost beyond recognition. The V8 engine is all-new and drives the rear wheels through the five-speed automatic."

Jaguar XK8 1998 Expert Review and Test Drive Results

Most of the car magazine reviews of the XK8 referred to this as well.

cheers,

jj
