Default Is this XKR ad unusual?

I found this 2010 XKR ad from a dealership in Utah. The ad states "This price is for Ken Garff Jaguar market area only, or areas not served by a Jaguar dealer. Zip code verification required."

Has anyone ever seen an ad like this...where the price is restricted to a specific geographical area?

Sounds like some sort of protection rule to keep dealers from competing outside their specific area. Not sure if that would a legislated thing or part of the franchise agreement. Not even sure if I'm right :-)

For example, there's a Dodge dealer in Idaho who sells, apparently, hundreds of trucks each month. His prices are SO low that customers come from hundreds of miles away to buy from him. I'm told it's an older, puny dealership with virtually no service department, no upgrades, etc. He does, though, have acres of storage space.

Other dealers, in high-overhead metro areas, and who are forced by the manufacturer to build modern dealerships, can't possible compete...or so they say.

Cheers

I've talked to a few dealerships out of my area with regards to a new 2010/2011 and they won't sell out of their area as they get penalized by Jaguar. They might be able to sell at MSRP, however, just not at a discount.

My guess is that this is the same issue. What they've asked me to do is give them my zip code and they put it into their system to see if they would get penalized by selling to me (again, I assume penalty would be only if they sold at a discount). It might be worth a call to the dealer to see if this is the issue and if your zip code applies.

Good luck!
