XKR Centre Mufflers Delete
Hi,
Looking at my 2013 XKR (with switchable active exhaust) and the XKR-S exhaust systems the difference only seems to be that the XKR-S has no central mufflers. When talking to Jaguar in Dubai they said I cannot just remove them as there are 4 x Oxygen sensors in that system, and if I do do it it will void the warranty....
I know there are loads of threads on this, but I just want know...
1. Can I just delete the mufflers and add the x-pipe? When I went to Quicksilver they said I would 100% get a drone noise in the cabin.
2. What if I just delete one of the two cental mufflers?
3. I want to keep the back box due to the Dynamic active exhaust....
Would appreciate your help....
Thanks.

Oxygen sensors are in the front pipes where the cats are, not the mid section. There are a few options for doing what you want, Spires in the UK sell a mid section with the X pipe and no silencers, it's a straight swap for the standard part. I have this, gives a bit more noise and higher throttle inputs but no drone, 100%.
I still have my standard mid section in the garage, was looking at it the other day. The silencers are welded to the pipes, not sure how feasible it would be to remove them other than to swap the pipe either for an off-the-shelf item like the Spires or similar, or a custom-made pipe.
If you have an exhaust specialist near you then see if they can make something similar to the Spires, otherwise that's a good option for doing what you want. I have to say though, I removed fuse 19 so the active exhaust valves are open all the time, that combined with the Spires pipe is loud when driving hard but still not too loud or antisocial. For me it's a nice level.

Hi, Thanks a lot for the reply... Much appreciated, and I think I will do as you suggested which is to get my local Quicksilver to knock up a Spires type x-pipe. It's good to know that the sensors are not in the central system..... I have taken out the fuse 19 so that I would not have to set dynamic mode all the time to hear the thing. Cheers!

Got a link to that spires website with the product your referring to? I was told by my dealership that the rear section of my XKR was different if it didnt come with the performance active exhaust and therefore they could not fit the X-Pipe on it (jaguar OEM x-pipe). Therefore they told me it was unwise to take the mid-pipe off with the 2 silencers as it wouldnt fit the rear section.... SOMEHOW I DOUBT THIS TO BE THE CASE... Anybody elses thoughts? Are the rear mufflers same on regular active and the performance active as far as fitment is concerned???
thanks

Lothar, here you go - Sports Exhaust
I could be wrong but as far as I know the only difference between the standard exhaust and the performance active option is the mid section; I thought the back box was the same. Drop an email to Spires, they'll be able to tell you. If you go for Stage 3 then you won't have to worry about that anyway as you're changing both mid and rear sections anyway.
Can't see that? In the photos or the timeline? EDIT - never mind, found her

Lothar, I haven't heard a Spires stage 3 system but I can say that the stage 1 is about 15 - 20% louder and a touch "more growly" if that makes sense. Stage is basically stage 1 plus the (much) smaller back box so I'd be surprised if the Stage 3 wasn't significantly louder again.
I notice the difference most on cold starts and when applying a bit of "enthusiastic" throttle. It's not really any more noticeable when cruising and there's no cabin drone. If you're looking to add a bit more vocality to the car then the stage 1 (or a similar part) will do the job, if you want full-on race car roar then I'd say go the whole hog.
Actually, just looked at your sig - you have both an XKR and an R-S right? The R-S obviously has the performance active exhaust as standard so has no center silencers and the X-pipe, so I'm guessing you want to do this to your XKR? In that case I'd expect the XKR to end up sounding very similar and just as loud as the R-S.

I have not had the opportunity to hear the standard XKR exhaust so I can't judge the sound. I found after getting my XKR it had the active exhaust and when the dynamic mode is applied the noise is louder than my old Corvette with side exhaust . The interesting thing that I do like is in normal mode the noise level is minimal and not that noticeable with the top up. So to me this is the best of both worlds and every time I take it out I gotta let the quads work.

Your right.. I should do the Stage 3 Spires... I would assume that would include BOTH the X-pipe and a bladder muffler that DOES NOT have a closed exhaust valve??? OR does it???

No problem. Stage 1 is just the center section without the silencers but with the X pipe. Stage 2 is just the rear section with the smaller rear silencer. You can specify whether you want the active valves or not (they're extra cost). The Stage 3 system is just both of the above sections bought together and again you can select whether you want the valves or not.
If you are buying for the XKR-S then no point getting Stage 1 or 3 - just get the Stage 2 as obviously you already have the unsilenced X-pipe as standard.

It shouldn't be any problem to switch the 2 resonated boxes for the X-pipe. I had the resonated boxes on my 2011 XKR 175 which I sold. I have the performance exhaust on my current 2013 XKR (same as XKR-S exhaust) and it is soooo much better. I've attached some pictures. There are no sensors involved in swapping out the resonators for the X-pipe. Let it roar...

funny how your Jag dealers said they could not remove the center muffler peace as the O2 sensors are there...we know this to be FALSE and we ARE NOT Jag techs... My Jag dealership did not want to switch out mine because they did not know if the rear muffler would fit right...and we know it will... do these guys REALLY know what they are doing!?!?!
