Lightbulb XKR Fully-Active Exhaust - Schematic

I wondered why the outside tips got a little dirty after I jammed my foot in the blown-nastiness hiding beneath the bonnet:

--thought some of you may find this interesting. Dammit, I love the craftsmanship and ingenuity of this car.

Cheers!

Interesting. I always wondered, is that valve operated electronically? Or does it simply push open when the pressure builds?

How would the standard non-performance system look like? Would all 4 paths run in the winding snake route?

So, what is the difference between this "active exhaust" and the "performance active exhaust" option?

These are just excerpts from a book I found on Google Books. I found it interesting. Also, the XK's exhaust system is actually a "semi-active" system. See below active system description:

So the XK has semi active exhaust, while the XKR has fully active exhaust. The question still remains, though, about what the performance active exhaust is. (which is standard in the XKR-S, and an option in the XKR)

(It may- or may not be from Jaguar's factory technician training manual... I don't want the boys in British Racing Green kicking in my door—like the NFL after I record a mid-season Packers-Lions shutout...)

I'll see if I can *Google* a schematic of the XR-S exhaust.

The Active exhaust is normally closed until you put your foot down then power is cut to the actuator that holds the flap closed. This is why you can pull the 10 amp fuse, #19 in the fuse panel between the back seats, to open the flap and sound like a 70's muscle car at low speed... Ask me how I know! Anyway, it is fun to do sometimes when I'm feeling "hoonish" if that is a word. After a few weeks I go back to "high brow" mode with it back in.

I've had people in stop and go traffic tell me how great it sounds. I'm tempted just to install a simple toggle switch under the dash so I can change it at will.. Like into quite mode when I pull into the driveway late at night.
