XKR Gets Full Detail w/Polish & Opti-Coat Today!
So after looking at my NEW 3 week old Ebony Black XKR in the sun it was apparent the dealer didn't know how to wash the car properly. They also likely glazed it like all dealers do to fill in any fine scratches to sell the car. Then a few weeks later when it wears off you get a surprise!
Therefore I have bitten the bullet and am having it fully detailed, polished and the real kicker is the Optimum Opticoat application. This stuff referred to as "permanent paint protection". Although it isn't really permanent it IS usually good for 2-3 years (edit: it is actually permanent unless you compound it off - like compounding down a real clearcoat). So no waxing or polishing ever! This Polymer technology is so cool.
Will then have to only use Microfiber towels - no more absorber! Also a bucket protector to ensure the mit doesn't pick up more dirt to scratch the soft Ebony paint!
Will post pics when done...

Wow, I am flabergasted at how many scratches there were in the paint when looked at under the halogen!
We initially thought a one step polish would be enough. Mind you one step doesn't mean one application and buff. Rather it means one polish chemical but as many treatments as it takes. Two steps is when he comes behind with a more aggressive compound.
Anyhow, the doors, rear quarters and bumper were in bad shape. To the naked eye it wasn't THIS bad but under the halogen... So he will be going back over the rear half of the car with compounding and then polish and finally the Opti-coat. He spent 12 hours today thus far. He will be back tomorrow likely for another full day. Mind you I'm going after perfection since the Opti-coat will lock in the finish for several years.
Google Opti-coat! It is a must. Here is a thread in a forum about it it's longevity under the harshest treatment including repeated Dawn washes and more. Optimum Opti-Coating - Durability Test Review!!! - Optimum Coatings - Optimum Forum

Bought a new white 911 several years back that after the first washing/waxing and when parked in my garage under good lighting brought out thousands of tiny raised imperfections in the paint that clay barring and light compound would not touch; turns out they were actually under the clear coat. Porsche offered to wet sand my brand new car and pay for 3 mos of lease payments but I passed and chose another 911.
Hope your new baby is fully restored, I'd document the damage and what they had to do with pics etc and have the dealership reimburse you.
