Default Xkr pcv valve / crank case valve

Anyone have to replace these recently?

wondering what the symptoms were. Trying to track down a potential oil consumption issue and this came up

They are a change item. When? When people have a problem they are trying to solve! One solution I had to an oil burning problem a long time ago, was change to change oil companies. At the time I returned to Sunoco oil.

No car info so hard to say?
Do you have any codes?
Without any data we can't guess what's wrong?

For future DIYers -

wish I took more photos but unfortunately was deep in “did I fck up” territory

this job is possible without removing the supercharger BUT it is extremely tight and you have to break off the older parts so make sure you have new parts ready

Once you break off the tabs from the prior PVC caps (see photo below), rotate around the caps and keep breaking. then you have to manhandle the cap off but be sort of careful because there are springs underneath

For the reinstall, I found it easiest to put the spring on the valve cover first.

put the replacement cap on halfway, and use a tool to align the spring to the center of the cap

Then once roughly aligned, you have to push with force towards the V of the engine. The new plastic has some give as it is new and flexible.

Then once in place, you have you align the orange seal part with the top of the cap in order to get the tabs to click cleanly on the valve cover

the tabs towards the V of the engine are really hard to clip, so I used a trim piece removal tool to “jam” against the supercharger and the top of the cap to provide a bit of leverage from up top. This is why the prior alignment step is important. You should hear 2 clicks on the backside. 6 clicks total.

now repeat for the 2nd one.

photo below of the old caps with the tabs broken off

this is a good video that shows how it should be removed/installed when you dont have a SC. with the SC its a different animal

Yes here is my thread as I also replaced them with the SC on.

PCV Diaphragms

Lot's of pictures and additional tips in my thread.
Difficult but possible and I do recommend removing the SC if possible!
I also recommend using improved Diaphragms from RKX as they are made with better material and they are cheap at around $25 each and for the 5.0L you will need 2.

One thing I found from another thread is to use a steel ruler to compress and hold down the spring while struggling to get the snap caps back on.
Now I did recently hear a wild suggestion from xalty who works on these cars for a living.

He starts the engine and lets it idle. Apparently at idle full vacuum is applied to the PCV valves and sucks the diaphragms in tight so there is maximum clearance to get the caps back on. You don't have to fiddle around trying to hold the spring loaded diaphragm down while simultaneously getting the caps back on!

Not sure I am brave enough to try it but I am sure that it does work. It's amazing what guys who actually do the repairs can come up with for short cuts and improved methods. I would have never even thought to start the engine while I had it apart for repairs!

In my repair I had to slice off some of the foam that is between the SC and the head as it sticks out and is in the way. Nothing major but you need ALL the working room you can get for this job!
