5 speed box in XK120 ?
Hi Jaguar enthusiasts.
I am a new member from France.
Jags : 1969 E-Type (XKE) FHC - Perfect runner
1956 XK140 FHC - Final stages of restoration
1954 XK120 OTS - Awaiting restoration.
Does anybody have experience / advice on fitting a 5-speed gearbox to an XK120 ?
Modifications ?
What type of box / budgets ?
I would do it myself unless major modifications required.
Thanks for sharing experience.
Francis.

Bienvenue Francis,
Wow nice collection you have. We would love to see some pics.
Don't know anything about fitting a 5speed into your XK120 but you might find this interesting.
Gearbox Identification.

I have seen a few 5 speeds in a 120, only driven one. The one I drove was silent compared to the howl my transmission makes in the indirect gears. I believe this is where he got it.

It also had a 140 water pump, if I remember correctly.

Thanks. This is an excellent source of info through archives, although I have never managed to get the full history of the posts on a given subject, only recent ones.

Would love to post pics of the cars but access seems restricted.
How would I simply attach a file ?

5 speeds to XK's are common, along with brake upgrades. The main guys I talk to about them are,
Guy Broad http://www.guybroad.co.uk/
Yuric of E Type Fabs, he's now making his own billet 5 speed and I've just let him take a 3.8 E Type block away to have rendered for machining in Aluminium, now that will be nice. http://www.etypefabs.com/
Ken Jenkins also can supply all you need, he's the technical director of the J.E.C.

These guys between them are serious players in the UK Jaguar restoration game.

Etypefabs production looks impressive, although not cheap.
At least it is clear, well explained, several options available. His site has a very useful RPM/speed calculator for the various axle ratios.

I drove recently a XK 120 syncro 4 gear Chrysler (dodge ). It fits whithout lots to modifications and run very well . Just a litlle modification and a cheap american part , easy to seach and install . Not for a purist but good for a pratice entusiast.
