Default Fuel leaks at carb banjo bolts

I’m wondering if anyone else has had a problem with the new, red fiber O rings. I just installed the fuel feed pipe, following a head gasket repair, on a 58 XK 150. I have leaks, at the unions of the fuel pipe and carb inlets.

The banjo fittings attached to the fuel feed pipe, are recessed on one side, and flat on the other. Maybe I have it installed the wrong way? I have the recessed side, facing the carbs and the flat side outward. Seams to be the recessed side, or float bowl side, is where I am having the biggest problem.

1. Does the fuel feed pipe mount with the recessed side facing inward or outward?

2. Are these red banjo fitting seals as good as the old, original, soft aluminum seals?

Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

Thanks!

I used Copper washers, no leaks.
