questions about Alt on xk120
Hello,
I am working on a race xk120 it has a 340 block and 150 head.
Someone prior to me installed a GM Alt that has the single post and 2 spade connections on it.
from what I understand I take the number 2 spade and connect that to the post.
where do I send the post wire to and what do I need to do in the regulator to get this working properly
thanks in advance
James

Questions about alt on XK120
I have a 150, but the answer should be the same. You should no longer need the regulator. However, you can use its termnals to make your new connections or just make butt connections. Anyway, the armature (large) large wire shold go to the charge wire from the positive battery terminal. The field (small) wire should go to the generator light. In the instructions I received, the armature wire was moved to the A1 terminal to make the connection to the charge wire from the battery. The field wire was disconnected from the regulator and butt connected to the generator light circuit. I made butt connections and just ignored the regulator and left it on the fire wall without any wires to it. In any event, the voltage regulator is no longer used. The polarity of your car will also change from positive ground to negative ground, so you need to switch the wires on the ammeter. I am not electrically trained, I did all thsbased on instructions I followwed that were furnished by the supplier of my alternator (a specially fabricated alternator that fit in the old generator case). I think it should work for you.

Thank you for the reply.
the issue I was having is I found lots of information about the conversion but all of it was referring to a 4 or 5 wire regulator.
The one in this 120 has 7 or 8 wires on it if I remember correctly.
I am not in front of the car at the moment.
So what I have done and I hope works:
Wire off alt to wire to amp gauge wire at regulator
then from where amp meter was to the starter with single wire off that to volt gauge.
This is a race car so the ign light is not a major issue for me but wanted to make sure there was not anything else on the regulator that needed to be hooked up to something
