The data plate certifying the car as a exact replica of the May 1949 speed record car. Question were there tags put on FHC LHD from 1952 or could it be from the 1949 Alloy OTS alloy body the body came from?
The CA registration stating that the car was titled as a 1950. What does CA DMV know?

 

It's pretty difficult to read that data plate photo. It looks like the chassis number is 679656; body number J1661; engine number W4793-8; gearbox number JL10466.
Can you check those with the original ID plate and correct me?

The California paper document is useless because it lacks the all important vehicle identification number. Maybe it is under that yellow paper?

The EXACT REPLICA plate was put on all OTS dashboards from mid 1949 to sometime in 1950, although the statement is slightly inaccurate. In 1950 the word EXACT was deleted and all OTS after that had a plate that just said REPLICA etc. In mid 1953 it was changed to 141.51 mph after they did another Jabbeke run with an improved car.
No FHC or DHC ever had this plate because they are not replicas in the sense Jaguar used the word.
So your plate is the first of three versions of the plate, and likely came from the alloy body.

 

I am on travel now so I just posted pictures that I had tKen before. But I agree, those are the numbers. I'll be in CA where the car is stored in a few weeks and I'll check out the numbers on the frame then. I'll also look over the engine better then. The number under is just a number CA DMV made up for the car and doesn't match any Jag id information.
So it still like George Washingtons hatchet , with the handle replaced twice and the blade replaced three times. In any case the mismatch of parts really reduces the value of the car, but it is, for sure, an original all allow body with wood support frame that looks to be original.
I'll let you know some more data in two weeks when im at the storage.
