I have a question regarding the battery covers, J hooks/brass nut and battery box on my 1954 XK120 OTS. I am unsure of how the battery covers are secured with the hold-down J hooks and brass nut. In the following picture from the XKs Unlimited parts catalogue, it shows a 'loop' as part of the battery bracket which sits around the battery box. From this diagram, one assumes the J hook goes into the 'loop' to hold the battery cover down. The battery box in my car, there is no indication on the battery bracket that a 'loop' was originally there. I have searched other photos and I cannot determine if there is a 'loop' for the J hook.
Without the 'loop', I cannot figure out how the J hooks hold the battery cover onto the top of the battery. What would be the original method from the factory? Can you help me with this matter?
