XK140 Roadster Body chassis interface
I have recently bought a 55 roadster in bits! The car has had a lot of work done. Does anyone know where I can get info on how to shim/mount the body on the chassis. There are several of the aluminium distance pieces with the car and I believe these had a fibre washer between the Aluminium and the steel to discourage electrolytic corrosion at the interface.
Were all the bodies mounted off the chassis to the same height?
I don't want dimensions from the road to the body as the body is bare and therefore lighter than when in full road trim. The car was LHD and I am building it up as RHD. Chassis number 811403.
Kind regards
Charles

I see nobody has input on this, so here is my penn'orth.
Yes, you need some sort of barrier between aluminium and steel to stop the aluminium acting as a sacrificial anode to the steel and gradually disappearing as dust ! I would use a more modern material than fibre washers which can absorb water.
As for actually mounting the body, I had a quick look at the parts pictures and saw nothing for body mountings. You need to search for an XK specialist in the UK, there are a few around.
