Default Chrome boot plinth XKR

Hi guys - does anyone know where i could get my hands on one of these? A lot of the nice XK8s/XKRs i have seen have this feature, but mine if the same colour as the rest of the bodywork. Have tried the 'easy-to-find-on-google' suppliers such as Paragon Design and XK8Parts, but theyre both out of stock.

That failing, i have looked into potentially removing it and having it chrome plated. Anyone had experience of doing this? Either to car details, or more probably, to parts of a motorcyle?

FYI - this would be for a 2005 model XKR.

Thanks!
Norm

Welcome to the forum Norm,

Chrome plating is a costly option. A good used part will be a lot less. As you are in the UK, have you tried any of the specialist Jaguar breakers?

When you get a minute, please follow this link New Member Area - Intro a MUST - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the New Member Area - Intro a MUST section and post some info about yourself and your vehicle for all members to see. In return you'll get a proper welcome and some useful advice about posting to the forum.

I know this isn't what you're asking, but why would you want to make the rear of your 2005 XKR (which had a colour-coded plinth) look like an older model?

Can't see it from the driving seat, but ..

'e's in the UK. SWMBO may require that he run BEHIND the car after a full-English breakfast, bangers and mash.. or just brown beans on toast.

Be grateful for English tolerance.

Ex-wife in the US preferred I run in FRONT of the car when so afflicted.

;-)

Thanks Graham / Frog

Got in touch with EuroJag and found one for quite cheap! Appreciate the advice.

RE why id want to change it to chrome.... nothing to do with making it look older / newer, simply because I think the chrome 'lifts' the back hugely and ends up making the rear a lot prettier!

I've just noticed in one of your recent posts that your XKR plinth is colour coded but my XK8 is chrome.

Don't know whether this is standard for the S / Victory to differentiate between N/A and S/C or the PO has changed mine.

^ I believe the XKR 4.2-S got colour coded, while the XK8 got chrome. Paint makes the car go faster, while chrome slows it down a bit. Common knowledge

I fully agree, looks great

I wonder whether I can find one for my 2000 XK8 (i.e. without the boot lock in the middle of the plinth). I couldn't find one amongst the usual suppliers of aftermarket parts (Paragon, Barratt etc.) but may be I should be trying harder.

Any idea ? Many thanks

Hi.
What color is yours? I'm looking for a black plinth for my 2002 and mine is now chrome! I'd be open to swapping!

I've ordered a Frost Blue one for mine. If it doesn't go any faster I'll be for you.

Spare part from the breakers did not come through as promised, so if anyone knows of anywhere with them in stock, or has one spare - i would be most obliged!

Thanks

This guy advertises them in chrome:

(click on the image to enlarge it)

There can't be too many French registered XKR 4.2-S in Frost Blue. I wonder if he asked permission to use this photo ............?

My 2001 XK8 has the chrome as standard, but it does not have a lock in the middle, just the 'growler' boot release button. The lock is located in the XK8 badge. It should be quite easy to locate one of these for a 2000 model.

Normski,
There are a couple of salvage vehicles on ebay that show the chrome plinth on their trunk lids. One of them is offering the entire trunk lid including the plinth for sale. All of these salvage vehicles are being sold for parts, so I'm sure they are available. Below is the link to the one with the whole trunk lid.

Hey, that's my car sitting at the front of our house! No, he didn't ask permission. Well spotted, Graham. Here's the original photo I posted on here a couple of years ago:

I found that blatant use of your photo searching for [XK8 + chrome boot plinth + UK].

Have just done a Google search on [Jaguar XK8 + boot plinth + images] and both our cars turn up so very easy to find and lift anything we post.

Chrome boot plinth XKR-frog.jpg

Scroll down that same results page and renaultvation's vehicle shows up

Chrome boot plinth XKR-frog-2.jpg

That's the main reason I never show my full registration in photos on the forum. Already had the number on the XK8 cloned once and ticketed in London.

I recognise that it's very tempting to just lift images from Google and use them as you see fit, but Dave Roche has apologised to me this morning when I brought the matter to his attention. He said he would add a credit beneath the photo.

It's not that big an issue really (life's too short...), but I agree with you, Graham, about masking the number plate. I have been doing this for years on forums and your experience with your XK8 just goes to show you can't be too careful.

Thanks again for the heads-up

I actually found a photo of my car on ebay about a month ago. Contacted seller and ebay and the listing was gone in less than an hour. It was all the pics from my album of my XF. Be careful. Aparently it's a new scam to sell cars on auction sites!!

I've got a black plinth on my 2000; no boot lock on mine. I'd be willing to swap, but I gotta check if my plinth is in conditions worthy of sending to you. I won't agree to it if mine isn't one hundred percent perfect. So, I gotta go check it.
