Default High Revs in first gear

A question for techs or anyone who may have experienced the issue I'm having with my 2004 XKR.

Last week I got a warning message saying "check rear lights" and "cruise control unavailable". I had read on this forum that it was probably the brake light switch so I brought it in to my dealer. It was indeed the switch and it was replaced. I also had a routine service done.

When I left with the car later that day it almost felt like the E brake was on but it wasn't. I then noticed that it stayed in first gear until over 5000 rpm before it would shift and then it would be fine until I stopped and accelerated again. I know, I should have returned to the dealer right away but I didn't.

I called the service manager and he suggested I disconnect the battery and then reconnect it after a few minutes to reset everything. Didn't help. It shifts fine in the sequential mode but not when I put in in "D" in the normal mode. The "S" button doesn't make a difference either.

I'm going back on Monday and they'll examine it and read any codes but right now I'm stumped.

Any ideas what went wrong?

Thanks all!

Kevin

I am not sure of your car is part of a recall but ask you service advisor if any other work was done or see if you have a new sticker under your hood with J004 written on it. J004 is an emissions related recall that updates the ECU and TCM (transmission control modules). I have heard that it has been known to upset some TCMs.

J004 - From the EPA.pdf

Here is more on it from another thread (it is not an XK thread but multiple models had this issue)

Thanks, Marc.

Jagtec over in the maintainence section of this forum thought it was a faulty or faulty installed stop light switch and it turned out to be exactly that. All is well again.

I'll check out your links re the recall.

Regards.
