I still need help on how to remove the old shifter plate and will a 2005 fit on 2003 xk8 picture attached

 

Yes, it will interchange with any xk8 bezel that has only the sport switch (I think 2003 and up).

To get it off, place a credit card in between the j-gate and bezel, from the top, down into the assembly...there are four (4) tabs that will release when you slide the card down in between them, at 1:00, 5:00, 7:00 and 11:00. Go slow, it'll come up with each tab location release...wiggle free.

 

Im going to order one this week thanks for the input, I'll give it a try, hate looking at the cracked one.

 

Consider upgrading to a chrome or aluminum aftermarket one (check out Mina Gallery)...much prettier.

 

chrome shows too many fingerprints, then you have to wipe it down all the time, and now...thats right, you've got scratches. (bling is for the outside of the car)

 

Cellslinger... be very patient and careful when getting at the retaining clips or tines on the bezel to remove it. I removed mine and managed to break one of them. I used a Subway frequent buyer card and just about mangled it beyond recognition - maybe a Visa card is stiffer. It was hard to keep the ones that released to stay released when you worked on the others. Anyway, take your time. I eventually got it done and reinstalled (had to reinstall my S mode switch, which I had pushed into the console.

Another question for all of you with great wisdom. I've been looking at extended waranties anyone suggest a good company or ones to stay away from only expect to put about 5k per year on my car and the quotes have been from 2500 to 5500 for 3- five yrs, my head is spinning!!!!!

 

For an eight year old car IMHO I think it makes more sense to self insure...put $200/mo in a savings account. Most policies will be expensive and/or have lots of exclusions. If you keep it well maintained, chances are you will come out ahead.

 

Alright i missed the one on ebay, sold already. anyone on this site know where to get one, I only need the cover as you can see in the picture at the begining of this thread.

If you want 'new', call Nalley Jaguar, or try our other jag sponsor - Gaudin Jaguar, both have the part at around $75. Otherwise, try salvage yards hoping to find one w/ the tabs in tact.

 

Thanks for the help flydutch and h2o boy, the credit card worked great. If anyone is interested I ordered a 1997 j gate or shifter plate and it is not compatible with 2003 one of the plugs are different female instaed of male and the markings on the plate are different 234 instead of 2345 on the manual side. found a 2005 and it is identical. Thanks again for the input.
