My 2001 convertible is rather new to me, and I am bugged by what is on the right side A-pillar behind the small eliplical screen? Nothing in the Owners Manual refers to it.

Anyone have an idea what it could be?

Hey Florida neighbor! I'm new too (to the XK8). It is an ultrasonic sensor for the airbag system. There is also one at the top of the rear door post on the passenger side, and 2 more in the screen in the header between the sun visors. Mark

 

Thanks for the tip, I have been looking all over the vehicle since your post, but I can not find a rear door on my XK8. Perhaps it was an option that didnt come with my car. The two door convertible only has 2 doors. Just kidding, of course.

I will investigate and see if there are any more hidden.

Called 'occupancy sensors' and have two functions:

1. check whether passenger seat is occupied - disable airbag if not
2. check proximity of driver to steering wheel - calibrate airbag deployment

The "rear" door post (to the rear of the door).. I live in Bartow (Polk), but work in Orlando (Orange).
