Default ‘97 xk8 cd changer

Hello hello. Hoping someone has a suggestion on how to get the cd magazine to come out for loading. Nameless person loaded cds into magazine and somehow managed to shove the magazine in too far and now it’s pretty stuck. Manual doesn’t seem to address this...magazine wants to come out(I hear it), and I can see it’s too far in. How can I drive without Roy Orbison or Springsteen?

thanks!

There are various threads on the forum which describe similar problems to yours. Folks who have been successful in getting their CD cartridges unstuck and removed typically describe carefully using tiny screwdrivers and sometimes quick blasts of silicone spray at the right locations to gently pry and pull the cartridges out. I would search the XK8 forum using something like "removing stuck CD cartridge" as my search phrase....

Along with Orbison and Springsteen, be sure to include Van Morrison, Spirit, Roxy Music, and Warren Zevon. Happy motoring....

Anyone listening to Orbison and Springsteen can't be all bad. I checked all the threads and finally ended up using a 1 1/2" wide putty knife to gently slide under and over the top of the magazine, mostly under, to cause the drive pinion to drop back down. Too much silicon will just gum up everything. Once out a very little silicon(WD-40) over the drive pinion will aid in it working properly, and dropping back down for release.
At least this works for me. and helped me get my 'Dion', and 'Del Shannon' disc back up and running. Likely many have a cure. I also keep a cassette tape at the ready to play when the CD locked up. "Dolly" on call.

Following the rule of trying the simple things first, have you tried bunching up a rag/towel, placing it on the left-hand corner of the changer and, with the door open, tapping the corner gently with, preferably, a wood or plastic mallet? Will often retract/release the drive from the cassette.

I admit that I had to chuckle at the mallet suggestion. I think the gentle tap with that, first...before the insertion of a putty knife would be the order I would attempt that. Especially since I can hear that the magazine WANTS to come out. I’m the first to admit that I’m not an electronic tech(that was dear old mum), but it does seem like the magazine just is hung up. Will check it out.
