Default 120 mph

That's 193 KPH for you metric system users. That's how fast I went yesterday. I found a long, straight, barren stretch of 4 lane highway and decided to floor it until I got scared. I actually got scared around 105, but I was accelerating so quickly that I topped out at 120. I had the top down, and in hindsight I started wondering at what speed does the tonneau cover get ripped off. It also felt like the car was getting a little light. It made me wish I had the stiffer, lower springs. It was fun, though, and I was amazed at how easily the car went from 75 to 120. It seemed to take no time at all. I'm sure I could have easily hit 130 or 140, but I'm not quite sure how much control I would have had over the car at those speeds.

I did that once, just so my Garmin Nav system would show my Max Speed in my trip computer as 122mph, then I accidentally cleared it one day, and I haven't been brave enough to do it again.

At that speed, a straight line is about it for me.

LOL! I thought about that, too. My Garmin was in the trunk, and afterwards I was wishing I had it turned on. However, I've taken it flying with me, and for several months the max speed on the Garmin was 585 MPH!

I'm thinking about doing the 120 thing again in the near future, only this time I want to hit 124. That's 200 KPH.

I got mine to 155 (highway 101 Mountain View, CA on the way to my gym) then it wouldn't go any faster. Just wanted to see if its really restricted. Guess it is.

I did 125-ish on a stretch of I-10 outside of El Paso, just after Sierra Blanca border patrol checkpoint - with the top up. That was the day that I drove mine back after buying the car. Then I chickened-out due to recalling a girl that I dated. She did 105 on 610 loop in Houston, got arrested and her sister had to bail her out.

The sad thing is later that night - still on I-10 - I got my first ever warning by a state trooper for doing 76 on a 65 mile speed limit ..... I guess it's better that way rather than getting caught @ 125!

Was that a convertible or a coupe? And if it was a convertible, did you have the top up or down. Also, do you have the car lowered, or any aero/ground effect accessories on the car?

When I did 120 yesterday I had been playing leap-frog with a Saturn Sky. He kept passing me, then slowing down so I would pass him, then he'd pass me again and slow down again. It was irritating to say the least. When I realized I was going to end up passing him again, I decided I was going to put some distance between the two of us. I was probably doing 90 (in a 70) when I passed him, and then in no time I was at 120. Before I knew it I was a half-mile in front of him. He didn't catch back up after that.

I hit 125 one evening on a stretch of clear highway and was surprised only by how unremarkable it seemed and how quickly it happened. It was as flat and straight as the road.

I once did 120 in my '87 Cougar. That was pretty much tapped out and it did not feel comfortable at that speed, but I was young and stupid. The Jag is much more composed at that speed and egging me on to do more, but I decided that was fast enough for me.

Ah, to be in the opens of the southwest. Haven't had the chance to air out my current Jaguar owing to the confines of the DC area. The fastest I've been on a motorcycle was about 130 mph in TX on a back road. As I crested a hill there was a buzzard in the road about 100 or so yards away. Even though I was hard on the brakes I still passed him doing around 90.

I'd like to know, too. Adamesh has lowering springs that they say are compatible with convertibles. The H&N springs aren't for some reason. I bought a wind deflector from Adamesh today, and so far my experience with them has been stellar. If the wind deflector is any good I think I'm going to buy a set of the springs.

I just did a cross country roadtrip from Houston to Victoria BC Canada (approximately 4000 miles in total) and had an average speed of 62 mph! Fastest was about 148 mph in the Nevada backroads, it was a bit unnerving but the car felt very solid at those speeds.

Best drive was over the Devil''s backbone (think that is the name) coming out of Canyon DeShellie using the J gate for down and up shifting. What a blast!

Worst police goes to Washington State where I was pulled over for (admittedly) aggressively moving through traffic whilst not speeding (65 in a 60 zone). The officer and I disagreed on what constitued wreckless driving but thankfully I did not spend the night in jail!

Did you know there is no official speed limit in Oregon? The posted speed is a suggestion, not the actual limit. Still a 55 state, which seems ridiculous to a Jaguar owner!

Ha! I live in Oregon and can tell you that the speed limits are STRONGLY suggested...though we do have 65 limits as well.

Mine is the XKR coupe just standard car. Note about 120-125 you do feel the ground effect cut in and the car seems hug the road better. Dont think I would ever want to do 155 in any car with the roof down!!

Note today I did see a brand new Aston Martin DBS black with full tinted windows and ceramics brakes. OMG need I say more .....

One of my recent "fast drives" happened at our annual Christmas party (also a charity event/food drive for the local food bank). My buddy tossed to me the keys to his Bentley Continental GT Speed. I live on the "outskirts of civilization" two blocks from a two-lane deserted nothing road, straight as an arrow.

After warming up the Bentley "a little", I line it up, then let it go. This car is ultra fast until the twin turbos spool up, then the V12 delivers a seriously BIG serving of "Kick A$$". I hit 145 before I really had a mental handle on it, and began running out of road at that point. Part of it was the disconnect between that kind of acceleration and the absence of noise in the cabin. Unbelievable for a vehicle approaching 6000 lbs.

My Garmin, known as Molly around our house, has 126 recorded. I know that the top was down, but Molly doesn't remember that part!
