I know this has been addressed before somewhere, but just to refresh it. CD changers/players fail over time. This one (2000 XKR Convertible) was DOA when the car was shipped to me. I was able to very easily find a refurbished unit on line for $80.00 (shipped). As you know there is a main rack that holds the top pump, the Amp, the Navigation unit and on the bottom, the 6 CD unit.
Note:You do not have to remove the main rack. At least on the 2000 the covers (floor and side) are not attached and are easily removed.
What to remove (with a 7MM/9/32 ratchet and screwdriver)
1. The two top front screws on the main bracket
2. The two side screws on the main bracket attached to the Amp
3. Remove the two harness plugs from the Amp. Push on the two tabs and pull out. (make a note of which one goes where).
4. Slide the Nav and CD unit out and unplug the CD cable.
5. Remove two screws attaching the Nav unit to the CD and remove the CD unit.
When you put the units back in the main rack, you have to raise the Amp unit high enough to re-plug the cables in a straight line.
You can't test the unit until the Amp cables (and CD cable) are plugged in. (Make sure you push the CD cable out of the way of the bracket or it will bind).
