Default 1997 XK 8 Replacement of j gate floor shifter micro switches for 1997 Xk8

Hi I need some advice on the replacement of micro switch on my floor shifter under the J gate.
It looks like they change the design of configuration of the location of some of the electrical connections in 1998 by adding a metal mounting on the left side of the box behind the solenoid. Do you think I can still make the 1998 design work?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated since the car is in operable now. The dealer said all parts for vechiles past 2006 have discontinued.👎🏻

The microwave switch is missing in the lower switch and the top is broken off. They are just tiny aluminum pieces that cover the button and engages the switch when the shifter is moved from gear to gear.

This what aluminum switch looks like one is missing and the other one has part of the end broke of like the one pictured

Hi,
As you have noted, there was a revision to that part # for MY98, then a further one to the current MJA4940AG.

According to Heritage, it's still available:

...at an eye-watering price.

You better bet would be to drill out the rivets and replace both microswitches. They aren't too difficult to source (Mouser, etc.), although you may have to do some work to reproduce the shapes of the levers.

Why is the car inoperable - stuck in Park?

Greetings! I can't speak to the '97 to '98 change, but re. micro switch failure, on mine ('01 XK8) it was the one that detects moving the J gate into manual mode. I bought a used J gate assembly off Ebay (the entire thing -- I couldn't find anyone selling just pieces of the assembly, and the cost didn't seem too awful) and swapped in the correct part. Plus I now have spares for the micro switches themselves if I want to go down the drilling rivets path. Note, too, it was a J gate from an XJ8, if you search and can't find one from an XK8.

bwryan, which switch is the one that detects the switch to manual mode? is it the one in the indicator housing?

I don't remember and can't quite picture to what it was attached, but it's the one located around the bottom center, so it's triggered when the stick is moved from right to left (from 'D' to '4').
