Talking 1997 xk8 conv. top question

my xk8 has 68000 miles, and is stored winters. (live in Mich.) Lately, when raising and lowering the top, the main clamp doesn't lower. If I play with it, it will finally lower. Any help? Oh yeah.... The other day, I had to take her out in zero weather. After arriving at my destination, I was idling for about ten minutes, and my oil gauge went to 0, and engine light came on. Turned car off and waited a couple minutes. Restarted it, and she was fine. Six hours later, drove home with no problem. Hoping for moisture in sending unit, or just a one time anomaly. I had a rebuild two years ago, and has been running great. Mobile One oil, if that means anything. Thanx again

1st thing to check, make sure your battery is fully charged. These cars are very sensitive to battery voltage.

Check that the pump fluid level is between the two embossed lines so the tank (RH side in trunk). Also if you have the yellow or brown fluid it needs to be replaced with the green colored Pentosin CHF-11S fluid. The original fluid gels when it get old.

As for the oil pressure, remove the oil pan and check for a clogged sump. It can clog with plastic bits from broken tensioners and guides. Also replace the low pressure switch (next to the oil filter)...it is less than 20 bucks.

Mike,

I've moved your question from General Tech Help to XK8/XKR forum as it's a model specific question.

Members here with the same model will interested in the topic and more will see it here.

Graham
