1997 XK8 Radio question

Is the small LCD showing the station frequency supposed to be illuminated? Mine does not have any back light which makes it impossible to see in the dark.

Yes; on my '97 it is illuminated whenever the unit is "on".

i guess I'll have to take it out and replace leds or bulbs, is it hard to pull it out?
