Default 1997 xk8 seat faulty

okay....I was driving, enjoying my un-eventful morning, when WOW! The left front backrest just started moving forward and back. At one point, it was fully forward. I also smelled some type of electrical burning smell. Now, it will not work at all. The forward/aft button works, as does the lumbar, but no backrest movement at all. Im thinking the seat switch took a dive. Any ideas???

That certainly made it more eventful!

If it hasn't blown already, pull 20 amp Fuse No 1 in the passenger side Fascia Fusebox for the passenger side seat module and 5 amp Fuse No 8 in the same box for the switch pack.

I'd remove the passenger seat to check seat module, switch pack and harness for physical damage and shorts.

Okay. I pulled the seat out ans checked all the wiring. No shorts oe wire chafing. I did notice the switches had a burned electrical order. After I replaced the aeat, the foward/aft button made the backrest go back! After that,it didnt do it again.Does anyone know how to remove the seat switches? Do I need to remove the seat cushion skin to get to them. They are also on the drivers seat.

You don't need to remove the cushion but may have to move some of the padding aside to see the securing tab (arrowed):

XK8 1997 - Seat Switchpack.pdf

Gently press with a flat bladed screwdriver to release it - easily broken.
