Default 1998 XK8 radio problems

Just acquired a 1998 XK8, love it. Everything works great except the stereo. If volume is turned up it make a buzzing / humming noise,no other sound. If I turn it off and back on again it's ok until I turn it back up again. Would this be the radio or the amp. Also the knob is erratic on the radio when changing settings, fade-balance-volume etc, will go from plus to minus when trying to adjust, . Volume works ok from steering wheel. Help....

Good day,

I don't know if the knob is a hall effect unit or an electrical connection type... I'm thinking the latter and is the cause of your issues... I'd just use the steering wheel controls or swap the radio... I don't know of any repeated issue with the radio knob...

Good luck and let us know what you did to fix it...

Cheers!!

Default radio problem

Thanks, really weird, if I turn the knob clockwise to turn up the volume it goes to 3 then 4 then maybe back to 1 then maybe 6 or 5, has a mind of it's own, same with trying to adjust fade or balance. I buy and repair and sell camcorders and once in awhile I get one that the menu dial is erratic, I spray contact cleaner around the dial and usually cures that problem. Maybe I'll try that befor replacing it. I ordered an amp from ebay, hope that cures the other problem.

Ended up replacing everything, radio, all speakers, installed sub woofers with amp and amp for the head unit. really sounds great.

Default 1997 XK8 steering wheel radio control erratic operation

My 97 XK8 Convertible has started a niggling problem. The volume up button on the steering wheel does not respond but if I press the change disk button the volume sometimes works.

The volume on the radio itself works perfectly

I would like to check the unit but am not sure to go about this. Does anyone have the instructions as to how to get to the unit (removal of horn button I guess) or any ideas as to what the problem could be?
