Default 1998 XK8 Tires: Les Schwab info? Maybe Continental?

I've got a new to me '98 XK8, and am in the process of doing some tire research, and would appreciate any advice that is out there!

I know the original tires are 245/50ZR17 99Y, but I'm thinking of going with a 99W. I'd rather have the tread life than the bragging rights - I drive about 60 miles, mostly highway, per day.

I also need to take road condition into account. I don't want two sets of tires, and I need ones that will handle the rainy season (Fall, Winter, and Spring) as well as the Summer here in the pacific NW. I know better than to drive in snow - not because of the car, because I know I can't drive in it. Safer for everyone if I stay home!

I really believe in customer service, and have been a loyal Les Schwab customer for some time - but their website is lacking the ability to really do the research I need on tires that will work for my needs. Does anyone out there have any Les Schwab tires on an XJ8, and if so, could you provide some information?

I've also been reading up on the ContiExtremeContact DWS, and they seem to have good reviews. Some of the things I've seen mentioned are the handling, and how quiet they are. Thoughts from the enthusiast POV?

Thanks much for your time and help!

I am running the ContiExtremeContact DWS on my 98 with 17" wheels. They feel very sure-footed in the rain. I've put 8000 mi on them and have no unusual wear. They do flat spot on a cold garage floor, but, that goes away in a few miles. I would buy them again. What ever you buy make sure to have them road force balanced.

I also have the DW (summer version) on my XKR Coupe, with about 5k miles on them and have been very happy. I was looking for something quiet, not too harsh and still competent in the corners and these have been all of those. Even with the poly bushings she still feels like a GT car.

I can also confirm the flat spots from sitting in the garage but like itspec said, they usually round out on a mile or two.

I'm also running the Continental ContiExtremeContact DW. I'm pretty happy so far.

I recomend that you go to the nearest Discount Tire store and talk to the manager. I use the Arlington (Yes the one here in Washington) store and they are very helpful.

Check the ratings and reviews on tirerack.com. Fabulous resource!
You said you'd be driving in rain (plus, you're in that climate). Be careful. Mine hydroplane something awful. Any wide performance tire is going to do that. Look for a good wet rating on tirerack.

No idea on the tires for you. I've only had my XKR three weeks and it came with new tires. But, I miss Les Schwab! Bought many tires there and appreciated the "sudden service".

Enjoy your new kitty!
