Having trouble with Radio turning off after a few minutes then if I wait a few more minutes I can turn it on again but then it will turn off again after a few minutes.

Default Sorry for delay in response - have you checked fuses

Hi,

Sorry your problem got lost in a recent flood of threads.

first have you checked the fuses in the side of the dash board. You need to open the passenger door and manual says it’s fuse nr 9 (10amp). Pulling it won’t do any harm, just make sure it’s the right one.

If that’s good the next thing is to pull the unit, and unfortunately that means taking out the Centre console. There’s a You tubevideo from the eminent Reverend Sam that’ll walk you through it.

Then check the connections to the rear of the unit. Here’s a pic of what you may find(depending on your model year.

Dusty- as pic from my donor scrap car

Best disconnect and clean all connections with contact cleaner NOT WD40.

if it’s not them, then it’s time to chase wiring diagrams and chasing the power wire for a break.

Let us know how you get on. Again apologies for the delay in response

Welcome to the forum sailby,

I see you have already posted another question here in XK8/XKR forum but missed out on posting in New Member Area - Intro a MUST forum.

This is my RHD 2005 XK8 showing what has to be removed to get to the radio head unit:

It takes around twenty minutes with previous experience but could be an hour or more the first time.

If you're really lucky it'll only be the yellow harness connector not locked in securely (the black piece is the lock which rotates to lock/release) or an intermittent ground.

Graham

I had the same issue: Listen for a few minutes, then lose signal, turn it off, turn it on, listen a few minutes, then lose signal. I cannot remember the actual process, but I remember it being stupidly simple, something about selecting two buttons on the radio at the same time to fix it. Do a search on here and you will find your answer.

Marvin, could you be recalling the feature that auto searches for other, stronger signal, incidents of the same broadcast station? some radio stations set up multiple broadcast locations since FM signals are line of sight. As you drive around the radio looks for stronger signals from same station when signal gets weak. This can cause periods of silence- drove some folks crazy. Jaguar issued a TSB about how to turn this off.

You'll be luck if that fits. OTOH signal strength can very well be a factor (I forget is this issue FM only?). If it affects tape or CD it's got to be power supply IMO. If FM only, I recall at least 1 person who had a fault antenna connection (signal? Ground?) Who experienced this.

I hope the tsb helps.

John
