Default 1999 XK8 stuck in park

I started the car fine, but the gear shift is stuck in park and wont move. It also seems that my remote wont open or lock the doors or open the trunk. Don't know if that's a separate issue or related. Radio, lights and everything else seems to be working fine. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Welcome to the forum Bestsella,
When you get a chance drop into the new member area to introduce yourself.

Firstly, give your car battery a full charge.
When you put your foot on the brake pedal, can you hear a click by the gear selector? If not then you could be looking at the park solenoid or the brake switch.

As for the remote, try changing the batteries and at the same time, take it apart and clean the buttons and circuit board with a suitable electrical cleaner.

hope this helps, enjoy the car and the forum.

Bestsella I've moved your post from the general tech section to the XK8/XKR section for better response. As Jim mentioned, please take a moment to stop by the New Member area and post and intor.

I had this happen once only - disconnected the battery for 20mins and everything was fine upon reconnection - never happened again but the battery did give up the ghost about 4 weeks later.

you can also override the gear shift by removing the star bolt next to the gear shift and inserting a screw driver to clear inerlock
