I'm just starting to research on the forum for information on the conv't top not working.

Top always worked great. Went out the other day and could not get it to go down?
Rear quarter windows go up and down. Switch works and the key moves the windows as it should. That's it. Sounds like it wants to work but won't do anything else.

Checked the 40 amp fuse in the trunk it was good. No sign of leaks at the pump? Seems the front latch won't release?

Pump fluid tank has 3 lines. Not sure which line to read correctly with the top up latched? What type of fluid to buy?

Book talks of using the wrench to assist in getting a stuck top up. Using to put one down may have issues?

Anyone have suggestions on the next step to troubleshoot? Always want to ask my peers before making adjustments.

Fixer, I've moved your thread to the XK8 section.
If you look in the 'How To' sticky at the top of this section you'll find an enormous amount of info on the dreaded top.
A few points - is the pump reservoir correctly filled ?
What colour is the fluid ?
Can you hear the pump running?
Have you checked the little Tee shaped petcock on the pump is firmly tightened clockwise?

 

Thank you very much. I'll be reading all the particulars tonight.. Fluid seems to be a blue green color and registers at the lowest line on the plastic tank. I will also check the petcock. I'm on it now...Great group thanks..

 

Check the fluid in the tank and that the petcock on the pump is closed (clockwise direction) and see if that helps. With the windows going up and down tells me that the roof rams are fully extended so the pump had fluid to do that. You can lock the roof with the allen wrench that is at the pump if necessary. I have a lot of information on the roof on my page if you need it.
