Default 1999 XK8 will not start.

I have a 1999 XK8 conv. and it has been running great. I got up to leave to work this morning and it would not start. At first it tried to turn over but no enough. Now it just whines when I turn key. I have listened for the fuel pump and it does come on. Still no fire. Please help.

I would check the battery first thing. When you say 'whines' do you mean it sounds like the engine is spinning or only the starter? Have someone look at the accessory belt while trying to start it and advise. The battery is capable of rotating the engine at less voltage than required for the electronics to function.

Default Car Won't Start

Possibly you've already gone to Sticky: Frequently Asked Questions.
There is a Thread in the Section "Car Won't Start" that is quite detailed in diagnosing a "no start" situation. It gives one a number of suggestions.

You should first check for fuel pressure and you can do this by going to your local AutoZone or alike and rent a fuel pressure gauge. You will need to install it on the fuel shreder valve http://www.gusglikas.com/AutoRepairF...SType99XK8.htm Your comment is leading me to believe that your fuel pump is not working if you find that you have pressure you should check for spark. Your year car is leading me towards a cylinder washing situation but will not go into that direction until you check the fuel pressure first.

The Fuel Pressure Schrader Valve is located at the REAR of the Right side Fuel Rail on N/A XK8s
