Default Exhaust smells rich

Hello, i've noticed that my 2000 xk8's exhaust smells very rich. There is no check engine light, so I wonder is this a normal thing or should I look into changing plugs? The car has 92k miles if that helps

You shouldn't be able to get a noticeable odour of fuel from the exhaust. It is possible that it is not coming off cold-start enrichment map-tables (and back on Lambda) after cold-start, due possibly to a bad coolant temperature sender? You should have the codes read. How does it run when warmed up?

The cars runs perfect but after the odor remains after warm-up. I just purchased the car recently and the first thing I did was clean out the part load breather which was clogged, there was oil in the intake from this. Is it possible that the cats are clogged from the previous owner driving the car with the oil intrusion? Also would there be codes without the check engine light on?

Yes, you can have DTC codes without the MIL light showing.

It's hard to say how the cats are - it depends on how much oil was being burnt while that breather was blocked. Regardless, that shouldn't result in a smell of fuel, I wouldn't have thought.

Its a Jag! Not only does it smell Rich, it makes you look RICH too!
seriously though, close to 100k change the plugs and do a hard battery reset. oil in the intake is normal. clean fuel injection system and throttle body, other than that be happy and dont over think the car

I mainly drive this car to work and back on the interstate doing about 80mph for 45mins twice a week and it has been averaging 25.6 mpg. I'll get some new plugs and clean the throttle body. Also i'll have to go get a code reader at autozone unless someone recommends a particular code reader
