Can anyone tell me the correct fluid (or correct equivalents) available in the UK for my 1999 XKR? I've looked around, but there seems to be a bit of confusion; as I understand it, the XK8 and XKR have different boxes and use different fluid.

The 4.0 XK8 used the ZF 5 speed unit, but the SC XKR 4.0 had the Mercedes Benz 722.6 5 speed unit fitted to deal with the extra torque more reliably.

I wanted to do an oil change on my box and did some research, as there are a lot of different opinions floating around on the net. My personal opinion is to use an oil approved by the manufacturer and in the link above you will find a list of Mercedes approved oils and a lot of general information relating to these very strong gearboxes.
