Default 1999 XKR transmission oil change

I've done some research on changing the transmission oil on my 1999 XKR and it doesn't seem too much of a problem. I'm going to buy an IR light to get the temperature of the casing (I read somewhere on that it will read 10% lower than the computer hookup, I presume due to reading the casing temp) and the parts / oil look reasonable if I do this myself.

I know I should flush the transmission but can't find any info on the procedure for doing this. Can anyone give me some advice.

Regards

Steve

You might want to check if you have an oil drain plug on the converter, am not sure what the cutoff date was when they discontinued that, somewhere end of 1998/early 1999.

I will do thanks, I'm hoping there is one. I found some great info on a Merc forum and I'll do a step by step guide once I've done mine.

Thanks

TIP FOR TRANS FLUID TEMP-

When I did my trans fluid change I had heard the same thing about case temp versus actual temp of fluid so I used the infra red temp gun and averaged the temp of the fluid draining out and the case temp and it worked well for me.

Good luck and get the chassis level before you start.

Come on, the level is not that critical on the merc box.
Put the same amount of fluid back in the box as what came out.
With the merc dipstick you can also check the level on cold, then drive a few miles and check the level again.

Howdy

I did mine ( 99 xk8 ) and posted the results. A suggestion is to slightly loosen all bolts etc ( pan and drain and fill ) before you start. That way once the fluid is out there will be no suprises when you find out some of those bolts are siezed !!!
