OK found a roughly 2 1/4 inch bolt sitting on tip of my gear box, head 8mm (see attached pic) Its 3/4 inch threaded.

XKR 2001 55K miles. Last person who was back there was dealer in 2004 doing the TSB for the EGR pipe.

Anyone any idea where this comes from could it be one of the bolts that holds the EGR value in place (looks to long)? I cant see down the back of the throttle body and dont see any missing bolts anywhere between the back of the engine and fire wall.

OK took the inlet air duct off, got my hand behind and under the throttle body and I can feel the lower bolt on the EGR value but where the top one should be I feel a hole!! So looks like this bolt is the top bolt for the EGR value. Can anyone confirm?

Guess I will have to take the throttle body of to fix.

Thanks
Simon

That very well could be the bolt for the EGR to the elbow. Mine are always a little rusty colored on the threads too, try a little loc-tite on it before you put it back in. For some reason, those and the other shorter ones that attach the EGR pipe to the exhaust magically loosen themselves.

I am in the middle of an engine teardown, I am pretty sure that bolt is off the EGR valve.
Due to the heat cycling it probably worked loose. When I undid them, they were tight.

Yes it the EGR bolt I have the throttle body and EGR value out now giving it all a clean. It would have been leaking air into the throttle body so lets hope the car runs better after all this cleaning.

I was so luck that it didnt roll of the top of the gear box and onto the ground!!

Not sure how it worked loose as the other one was tight and so were the bolts got the EGR tube.

Maybe dealer's guy dropped it and couldn't find it, so said f**k it, one is good enough.
