Default 2000 Jaguar XKR Trunk Light Failure

I just joined Jaguar Forums hoping that I might receive some guidance regarding the failure of my trunk lights. Until about a week ago, the trunk lights on my 2000 XKR were working flawlessly; then out of the blue, they failed. I initially replaced the bulbs - halfway thinking that would not solve the problem- and I was right, but at least I have new bulbs. I also checked the fuse located in the driver’s side fuse box (#7) and discovered it was good, but only 5 amps vs. the 15 amps that according to the Vehicle Care manual ( and everything else I have read to date) is the proper fuse. Meanwhile, the glove compartment/vanity lights work fine notwithstanding the underrated fuse. So, I am now thinking that the problem is a failed micro switch. Any guidance is appreciated, to include whether I should replace the 5 amp fuse with the recommended 15 amp fuse.

Could be chafed wiring. I would try removing the bulbs, burnishing the bulb sockets, and reinstalling the bulbs first....

Take a look at this video. It walks you thru the main points of trunk/boot light problem areas.

Also search the forum for an earth ground bypass that is used when the bulb panel has been damaged. Mine has this fix from the previous owner.

Found the link for the grounding issue. https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...esolved-35083/

Thanks Jon89 and Jag#4 for your advice! I swapped the 5 amp fuse I discovered in the Driver’s side fuse box slot with a 15 amp fuse ( as detailed in the manual and reinforced by John Dee) to no avail. Ended up putting the 5 back fearing that if it’s a connectivity problem it was probably not a good idea to up the amperage right now. Burnishing the bulb socket is the next (and easy) thing to try next followed by the earth ground pass.
