Question 2000 XK8 hood support question

Later this spring, I am planing on replacing my chain tensioners. I have read and reread all the threads on this subject and will probable read them once more before I start. My question is do most of you recommend removing the hood to get it out of the way or is it possible to just tie and support the hood to the roof of my garage and remove the hood struts to get them out of the way. Just looking for some feedback.
Thanks

You can put your hood up in the "service postiion". It will get it out of your way. On the hinge you'll find a hole. Get another person and release your struts...the hood can then go just about straight up and you slide a bolt in each hinge to hold it in place.

There is even a better way. The hood has a service position that places it vertical and retained from falling back on the engine with a bolt through a hole in the hood hinge arm. Pop the supports off the lower end attachment point and use a 1/4 to 5/16" bolt and nut through the hole in the arm.
