2000 XKR oil in breather pipe
Hi
New to this so please bear with me if I get it wrong.
I have a 2000 xkr with 68k on the clock, beautifully kept by its former owner.
it appears to blow oil through the breather pipe which then drips onto the cylinder head on route to the exhaust manifold, result a burning oil smell whenever I stop!!
it has the later steel lined engine, the breather pipe orifice is spotlessly clean
there is plenty of suction in the pipe to so assume no splits there.
the engine runs perfectly and pulls as it should, clean exhausts and no sign of burning any oil, in the exhaust, am i missing something obvious??
Thanks in advance
Donsi

I gave up advising members to look at ALL TSBs. (imagine 'beating dead horse' pic here)
Every Month/Week we got new TSBs issued as paper documents when I worked at the dealer. We needed to keep up with them so as to NOT WASTE TIME diagnosing known faults and losing money. Later on we got info via the internet. I downloaded THOUSANDS of documents for my benefit.
Jaguar gets feedback from techs and engineers so they issue info to speed up repairs.
DIY people can save time/money by reading all the info we read and learn about the cars.
TSBs are your friend!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Andy,
the engine number will tell you: changeover to steel liners was mid-August 2000. See this writeup on Gus' site:
JagRepair.com - Jaguar Repair Information Resource
Earlier date than that would be Nikasil unless it's a remanufactured motor.

Hi
Thanks, i have been looking and it would appear that it is a nikasil lined engine not steel as stated by seller!
Surely as we where on low sulpher fuel by then it should not be a problem? There are no other signs such as poor starting, lack of power or rough idling, in fact you can stand a £1 coin up on its edge on the top of the supercharger with the engine running, seems a pretty smooth idle to me.
Regards

Thanks
I have now confirmed original engine which is nikasil lined, build date july 2000 car registered nov 2000 hence the dealers assumption that it was a steel lined one. Local garage looked at it today and are convinced nothing to worry about and checking all breather pipes, filters etc. So we will wait and see.

Udate on oil problem.
Removed the rocker cover to see if anything was obvious, noticed that the breather filter cover was only partially sealed, cover loose at the corner nearest the breather hole, cleaned, re-sealed and clamped down over the weekend, re assembled today and, touch wood, all is good, will try a longer run over the next couple of days with fingers crossed!
