Default 2001 XK8 engine replacement

I am going to replace the engine in my 2001 XK8. Should I pull just the engine or is it easier to pull the engine and transmission together, then mate the trans to the new engine? Thanks

I am looking for an answer on this too, as it is exactly what I will be doing next weekend.
If no-one jumps in, I'll give you my experiences. If you get to yours first, please do the same.
I read earlier today that to remove the transmission to change the rear main seal takes about 75mins if you are fortunate enough to have a lift in your shop..
I will have a couple of certified ASE mechanics to help me, however neither one has done this particular job before...
Good luck to us both!
Dan

I would leave the tranny in place and have done many times that way, unless there is something specific you wanted to do like change the oil, unbolt the torque converter and leave it be

So far I have only done just the engine without the gearbox and I do not have a car lift, although I have considered last time to also take the gearbox with it, I decided against it as that seemed more difficult.

I am going to start on my swap next week. Still not sure if I should just pull the motor or pull the motor and transmission. Looks like the bell housing bolts might be hard to get to. Any experience with this? Thanks

I am replacing the original 2001 Jag 4.0 with a 2003 XJ8 4.0 from a VP sedan.

I am replacing my destroyed 2001 XKR engine with a low mileage unit. I have just gotten finished changing all the coolant hoses, gaskets, polishing the throttle elbow/supercharger inlet and now just have to get the 10% under-drive pulley onto the charger.
I too think the bell housing bolts may prove to be the decision maker in my case.
