2001 XKR Phone (TDMA) Termination
Does anyone out there, have any suggestions as to what I may do, in order to maintain full phone integration in my 2001 XKR Silverstone Coupe, now that AT&T has terminated the TDMA network? As you all may (or may not) know, these Jaguar phones were not cheap and now that we (in California) are being faced with the new law that requires "hands free" operation of cell phones in cars, this termination by AT&T could not have happened at a worse time! I have contacted Jaguar directly, to no avail - they have basically told me that "they do not have anything nor will they have anything to help this situation". So what am I to do? It seems ludicrous to me, that they are not prepared to do "anything"! I understand that not only Jaguar cell phone owners were affected by this network termination - BMW and Mercedes were affected also. HOWEVER, in speaking with Mercedes, they do have a solution. Anyone???

There is an aftermarket setup you can get. It will plug into the phone harness and allow you full integration and use of steering wheel controls and keypad on audio unit. Willl also be handsfree. Not a Jaguar item, however a good stereo shop should be able to find out about it. Sorry I don't have more info.

Thx for the info. However, I have not spoken to anyone who has heard of an after market kit that will interface with a factory car kit. I know you said that you do not have any more info. However, if in the future, you do, I would be grateful if you could let me know. Many thx.

RE: 2001 XKR Phone (TDMA) Termination
I have contactedseveral shops/pros in the autophone business and looked into this extensively, but have not come across any aftermarket solutions. All that seems to be possible is that of integrating a phone with the stereo system, so that it can use the stereo speakers and can mute theaudio when you're in a call.
Apparently, Mercedes has a bluetooth kit that in some cases attaches to the TDMA phone cradle wiring ($$) and in some cases replaces the phone car kit ($$$) - depending on the car model -providing full integration with their stereoand steering system. Now that's the responsible thing to do when the cellular service provider impacts your customers, despite it still being costly to your customers!
It is disappointing to see that Jaguar has not taken steps in addressing this issue, as it causes loss of functionality that we have become accustomed to.
It would be great toget anyinformation on a kit or solution that would integrate with the steering wheel and the call/number buttons on the stereo. I am willing to pay for information leading to such a solution, seriously!!
Thanks,
Paul

OK - I talked to the guy today. He said that there was a kit but the company that made it went belly up. It was a splice deal but would allow use of audio unit. He had one left but sold it last month.
His advice was same as Genius. Get a handsfree bluetooth kit. They are voice activated including phone book, and will also mute radio when call comes in.
Sorry for getting your hopes up.

To FactoryJaguar Tech:
Thanks for the follow-up. It would be very helpful to have a bit more detail on the kit,as I may be able to find one out there, assuming that it was distributed to more places than just the outfit that you have received this information from. So would you please contact your source to help me with the following:
- What was the name of the company that made the kit, when itwas still inoperation?
- A product name/number, if available?
I appreciate the bluetooth advice by yourself and Genius, but that solution is a compromise, as far as I'm concerned, so any further information on the kit above would be highly appreciated.
Thanks,
Paul

When jag offerred the Bluetooth option in the 05/06 was it a different stereo/headunit ?
Maybe you just need to get the Jag Bluetooth module for the car. It integrates into the head unit.
I am sure someone has the electric schematic for those years and can tell you what it plugs into and if it's any different from the earylier years. I think the bluetooth module kit is mounted under the center glove box.

looks like the problem is with the comunication lines that go to the radio called "audio corperate protocol" or ACP. We need a way to link that protocol to what ever protocol the bluetooth device we want to install uses. http://www.mictronics.de/?page=cdc_proto this is a link to a site that figured how to link a ford radio to a cd changer using the same protocol. its greek to me but perhaps someone with a bit more electrical expertise may be able to use something there.
