Default 2001 XKR- rear suspension options?

Was there in 2001 a different set of options on the XKR with regard to rear suspension? Were they all electronically adaptive or were some manual? Also, mine are pretty well shot- clonking and rattling from the rear with a definite lack of stability. Is it common for the shocks to fail themselves (100K on the clock) or is it the bushings?

I'm pretty sure all the XKRs had CATS suspension. Your clonking is almost certainly the shock bushes have failed - you can see them easily enough if you get under the car. The top mounts are no doubt on the way out also.

Thanks. I have to investigate whether or not that's a job I can tackle myself or if I need special compression tools, etc...

You can replace the bushes with just a simple press kit. Simon at Projects in the Barn made this excellent video showing it in detail.

The only special tool you need is a bearing press to get the bush out/in.

Have a read of Rothwell's description of how he did his upper mounts using a jack to make enough space to get the shock tower out.

Thanks for that. I just went out and compared the junk XK8 to my XKR. The XK8 is dampened nicely. the XKR is literally just springs and bounces like a trampoline. oof.

EDIT: I just realized I have full access to a Dake arbor press. Might work for the bushings...
