Default 2002 Jaguar XK8 - p0332 Knock Sensor Phenomenon

Hello all

Wondering what folks think about this before I bust out the wallet and start buying things.

Over the weekend of the 4th I drove ol baby blue about 250miles. Flawless. The lower milage engine runs a treat and I am still surprised by the difference.

I I drove into work the next day, short miles, no issues. Parked it. I've had a funny thing with my hazards since getting the car. Especially in hot weather, the bottom gets sensitive or sticks. Neighbor told me, but didn't know which NYC door was mine, that the hazards ran and ran. Completely dead AGM battery.

New battery later, car fired right up BUT, RESTRICTED PERFORMANCE and a knock sensor code. P0332... Low input bank 2. I tried turning the key once before I even realized that battery was dead. Zero response from the systems of the car

At this point I think I've started the car, not driven, 2 or 3 times since and drove the car into work today. Same. RP, engine light, code. I've cleared the codes and it returns immediately,,, like immediately.

Could this just be a GHOST, a GREMLIN, a POLTERGEIST?

A symptom of the dead battery and me turning the key with only 4 or 5 v on the battery?

What say you?

KS ('B' bank (2))

Poor sensor contact with the cylinder block
KS to ECM sense circuit: short circuit to ground
KS failure.

I get this on one of my X308 sedans every once in a while and just replace the KS and clear the DTC.
The KS is not difficult to replace on a Normally Aspirated engine.
Just have a socket (E Torx) to remove/replace the stud and slide the KS and harness out the front.
Fish the new one back under the intake and insert the stud, tighten with socket and reinstall/torque the nut.

Thanks Man... I think I remember doing one of these way back when, I think, the way that you described. If I remember right I think that I recall being afraid to use a magnet on the top of sensor not knowing (and I still don't know exactly) if the magnet would destroy it.... anywho

I hear ya. I'm wondering if there is any possible way that it could just be relic of the dead battery moment? The car still feels to run great/normally. I don't really have any fear of driving it and causing damage for a short while. Is it possible that it might just go off? Or was that possibility disproven by the code returning after clearing codes?

Trying to save a buck or 2
These damn CATS are eating me out of house and home.

I'm looking at all of the threads I've started and am really ashamed at how I leave many of them... to try and tie this up,,,

my hazard lights did kinda turn themselves on for more than a day and completely killed the battery. It's a deep cycle type agm battery. Recharging it was a trip, maybe a thread in itself, dont tempt me, lol

Anyways, more than the hazard issue - which still WILL stick if I use them (and there is reason to often in NYC) and dont use a credit card of some sort to make sure it is completely extended to OFF when i finish - after swapping the engine recently i discovered i poor connections at the false bulkhead and alternator connections. Cleaned those up, set in a newly charged battery and I run at just over 14v all the time. It's nice. The knock sensor disappeared and never returned. As are many things to do with these cars it was a voltage/amperage issue...s
