Default 2002 XKR center caps

I'm running into trouble with the center caps on the XKR.

The red background has faded , and they look pretty bad, also some of them are loose, more on that later.

I bought a set of these from E-bay because they appear to be the same as the ones on my car.

However I tried to install them today and they don't seem to fit the wheels. I noticed that the old ones that were loose had 1 of the 4 clips broken off. However when I tried installing the first new one into the wheel TWO of the four clips just snapped right off.

I had a center cap from my X-type handy, and it is the newer style as below. I tried it, and it popped right in and fit PERFECTLY! Nice and snug, but not tight enough it needed to be forced in.

I popped the X-type cap back out and measured it and one of my new ones with a set of calipers, and the X-type cap is about 1 mm smaller in diameter at the clips.

I see there are caps that are the X-type style (painted on growler) with a red background. Are those the correct ones for a 2002 XKR? I have looked at some pictures, and all of the XKRs of that era with my wheels seem to have the chrome 3d growler like the first picture, but those other ones just seem like they fit better.

I have the red 3Ds on my '01 XKR.

Welsh seems to sell a lot of these...maybe give them a call and see what they say...

Thank you for that link right to the part. I too have the Red caps on my Double Fives on my 2000XKR. They are looking seedy and now I know where to get them. Question is..are these the same Andy bought on Ebay that gave him a problem? Andy94SC, where did Ebay list as the source? And could you post the ebay link where you found the please? Maybe if you heat the tabs before initial installation they will bend a little without breaking.

I had the same problem and bought a set of replacement black caps here: JAGUAR WHEEL CENTRE CAP BADGES X 4 BLACK & CHROME NEW | eBay UK

Expensive, but OEM and a perfect fit.

Even though I got them through Ebay, they aren't cheap knock off's. They were $26 each, and came in Jaguar packaging, so I THINK they are OEM parts. The seller is British Part Place (Engel Imports) based out of Kalamazoo MI. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Jagua...item256197bcee

I'm just not sure if they are the right ones for these wheels. Part of what makes me think that is that the ones on my car now also are broken and don't seem to fit correctly.

I don't have a close up of them right now, but this should give you an idea of the style.

Get the black 3d ones off the later 07^, cars look much better than those flat ones and wont fade like the green and black do. We seem to put those in alot under warranty for falling off...they always look like they might have "pick" marks around the opening like someone slole a couple
these are the ones from Welsh for $21 ea Im talking about C2Z-4438

Andy, you have the same wheels I do. They are called Double Fives. IMO they are about the prettiest wheels from Jaguar. I like the curves which are a better stylisc match for the curvy body. They are also really easy to clean. About all of the later 19 & 20 wheels are straight spoke design which don't match the curvy body; and some look really hard to clean. Now, what bothers me is if your caps are OEM and the tabs broke what are we to do? Those are the correct caps, they match mine also.

Thanks. That's the confirmation I was looking for.

I have the right caps, so why don't they fit? Did Jaguar possibly change suppliers and the new ones are out of spec on their dimensions? Is there something unusual about my wheels? Or was this combination always a tight fit and tended to break caps?

they fit but theyre tight, the ones i talked about are the latest and have been redesigned for the breaking issue. Those are the only ones I know of that are updated. And red was not the only color used on xk8 xkr's back then. Unless you just like red, we have many people that buy the black raised ones. And all the caps fit all jags models xtype, xj, xf, stype xk

Andy, those are the very same style my 19" Apollo rims use, and i've had mine off and on many times, never a broken tab and fit very well. Brutal also has double fives on his xj, so perhaps it is with that wheel style alone that is having the issue. He'd know if the 07^ centers would work better, I'd trust him on that.

Try to recoup some of your money and sell the non-broken ones to a member or two on here. I could utilize your damaged one for a project I'm working on that doesn't require the tabs or mounting in a wheel if you want to mail it to a good home

I'm still not sure what I want to do. If these are the "correct" ones for my car, I'd like to use them.

I have been toying with the idea of using a bit of something like silicon sealant to help glue them in place, and trying to carefully install them to minimize breakage on the other 3.

Andy if you give up i'll buy them and give em a try. Try heating them with a hair dryer or heat gun and slightly bend the tabs, then insert when hot.

I do have the 07^ center caps in mine, and Ive also siliconed broken caps with NO tabs onto customer wheels that are broken and wipe off the excess. Oh and to install especially new ones and the new style ones, line them up and smack em good to install. yeah theyre tight and I bet it just feels too tight to you but NORMAL to me

Well I decided to try to install them all today. I cleaned up the first wheel, and lubed the hole with some WD40, put the new cap over the hole and smacked it right into place - no problems at all!

I tried the next two the same way, and broke both of them.

So I have 1 cap installed properly, and three that are siliconed onto the wheels. Let's see how long they stay. I've made up my mind that as soon as I lose one, I am replacing them all with the newer style caps.
