2003 XK8 - CD Player No Longer Works
Good day all,
I own a 2003 convertible XK8 with original stereo parts. For a few years, the CD player would occasionally pause and start again and it appears its finally given out. I assume the 6-CD changer in the trunk is a combo of changer and player.
Can you please suggest if it's best to replace it with a like-part, or call a Car Stereo store and find something compatible; if so, what would that be?
Assuming all I have to do is find a OEM or used part (CD Changer) , is it easy for a lay-person to install, or should I have a stereo store do it?
I called my foreign car service place and they wanted $165 to diagnose the problem. That seemed absurd to me, but perhaps it's more complicated than it appears. The radio works and when I try to play a CD it tries to load but can't. So to spend $165 to "diagnose" this seems nuts. After I nicely pushed back on that idea, they ended up telling me that the part is no longer available from Jaguar and that I should go to a Car Stereo store and get another part and remind them that they need to synch the new part with the radio.
Your insights on how to approach this would be greatly appreciated. I love this car and miss my music.
Best regards,
Zafu

I just bought a CD Changer for my X350 for $60 US from ebay. It works very well. There are several for sale currently on ebay for your car and you should be able to buy one for less than $100. Just make sure that the one you buy has the same part number as your existng unit and it will be plug and play.

I don't know how to remove the changer, which is why I'm asking. What I would do is buy the replacement part and then have a local store install it for me.
Thanks. -Zafu

The part you need for your 2003 XK8 is LNC4160AA. Same part was used in the XJ8 .If you feel uncomfortable installing it your self have your regular shop do it.

Zafu,
1. Easy enough to replace. I'm sure you can do it if you choose that route.
2. Last I looked these are common on ebay. I believe they used the same CD changer all X100s 1998 through 2006.

3. I find my bluetooth adapter sounds better, is easier to use, and with Amazon prime (free downloads) I have access to 100's of artists & albums at any time.
Bluetooth addition about $140 and 60 minutes to install. If you can use a soldering iron and a screwdriver, you can install it yourself.
Bluetooth I describe adds hands free phone too.
If you want help changing the CD changer or installing the Discount Stereo (store where purchased) JagHD- CD bluetooth (model name) just ask.

My CD player on my 2000 also failed. The cartridge was stuck in the player. I pulled the unit out and opened up the case. After 20 years of Florida heat the lubrication was dried out. I lubricated the mechanical drives and that cured the problem.
