Default 2003 XKR engine trans, 80K miles - can it be transplanted?

Well, here goes...
Have a 1956 XK140 FHC without and engine or trans. Meanwhile, found someone who wants to get rid of their wrecked 03 XKR - complete with all boxes, wiring, etc..

Anyone out there knowledgeable enough to give an expert-ish opinion on whether this supercharged XKR engine and auto-trans could be transplanted into the barebones '56 XK140 WITHOUT TOO MUCH HEADACHE?

My other option is going with a Ford 302/5L engine, which had been previously installed in the car.
Obviously, having a supercharged Jag engine would be at least showing a semblance of loyalty to the marque...

Any feedback? Sources? Places to check?

Thanks.

You're obviously up for a challenge

Not quite the same car, but take a look at Doug Dooren's thread in the MKII section:

The end result is, IMHO, superb, but it's a long journey and he's had his share of headaches.

In your case it would be far easier to transplant an american V8 and trans.

Mike,
Excellent info, thanks! Spent a bit of time going through all 16 pages.

RJ,
I think you are probably correct -- an American V8 would be much simpler for two reasons:
1) there are plenty of mechanics around here who can work on the engine/trans;
2) the car previously had a Ford 302ci, so I know it will fit. Meanwhile, I fear that there is a bulk of engine parts at the front of the engine, where, unfortunately, the XK140 compartment narrows.
