FROM VIN A30645 is supposed to be the M16 x 3.0 LH thread tow eye.
The older VW Jettas and the S-Type is also the M16 tow eye.

With Motor man's knowledge about this subject, and based on VIN# I was able to quickly locate and purchase the correct eye on Ebay for only 18 dollars shipped! As a 40 year British car fanatic/owner, and currently own a 91 XJS V12 convertible and 2003 XKR convertible....Never have a seen a more confusing subject for a really simple part. I look forward to never having to use it here on Cape Cod Massachusetts.

this is all very interesting, but your photos begs the question, is Nana’s ice cream worth the drive from Oklahoma ?

Too funny, it has very good ice cream and candy. We have a very active British Car Club here. A big 3 day event show every fall. Come visit!

We will have to make the trip. For the ice cream of course, and to see some family history; My SO’s distant ancestors once owed Martha’s Vinyard back before the civil war. I’m sure it was just a mosquito infested swamp back then.

PS. my ‘02 XKR VIN ends in A24583 and of course the tow bolt is missing, the rest of the “kit” is there though. Still Not sure which bolt to order or from where

It came out of an 2007 Hyundai Accent of all things! Works on the front and rear and fits perfectly. The best part was the cost $3.25! Can't even buy an eye bolt for that!

And it fits in the jack kit under the spare with only very minor alteration. Less than an inch of Styrofoam was removed to allow the longer shaft to fit.

Genius! This worked for me. Got it on eBay for under $20 used and is a perfect fit on my 2000 XKR. Thanks!

I just ordered a couple of tow hooks from McMaster Carr, an industrial supply house here in the US, if you're not familiar. 150mm long and I'm trusting you guys on the M20 x 2.5 being the right size. I checked my car and low and behold it's not there. Where in the heck are these things going??? Is it too hard to put it back??
I'll let you know when they arrive. TM

Well, my eyelets came and they do not fit. I couldn't find a way to measure the hole as it is recessed a bit and the hook would require a bit of shaft to get the eyelet out oil the open.Bottom line is M20 is too big, I should have paid closer attention to the above post advising M16. I'll see what I can find. BTW, the industrial eyelets are too short, there isn't enough shank to reach the recessed hole. My serial is A30811.

I realized the other day that the tow eye is missing from my 2004 XKR, and I just confirmed (with a bolt) that it is an M20 x 2.5 RH thread. My VIN is A37XXX, so I think the statement quoted below that it should be M16 from VIN A30645 is not correct (unless I'm misreading the context).
Just thought I'd share

I agree with the suggestion to check the actual car; I just found my 16mm towing eye mounted in the front of my new 2006 XK8 VE. Been there so long it had road abrasion on it! But my friend with a 2003 has a different thread on his.
